Sandbag Locations Throughout Contra Costa County

Sandbags during flooding

With rain expected, Contra Costa County and local cities are offering sandbags to residents. Here is a list of locations and options.


Antioch
1201 W 4th Street

The station is located at the City’s corporation yard at 1201 W 4th Street; the sandbag station is self-serve from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Come to the Public Works office to pay for the bags. During storms the station is open and available 24 hours a day; after 4:00 p.m. on weekdays you will enter at West 4th and N Streets, the sandbag station is on the right-hand side just before the gate.


Brentwood
2500 Elkins Way
Brentwood residents may utilize the self-filling sand bag station located outside the City’s Cardboard Drop-off gate at 2300 Elkins Way. *Limit 10 bags per household, while supplies last. Residents may report flooding to the Public Works Department, or after hours to Police Dispatch at (925) 809-7911. For more information, call Public Works/Operations (925) 516-6000


Clayton

During City business hours, shovels and bags are located at the maintenance yard, 6000 Heritage Trail, and the sand is located across the creek adjacent to the Keller Ranch house, north of City Hall. During non-business hours, please call Clayton Police Dispatch at (925) 673-7350 for access to the maintenance yard. Sandbags are limited to 50 and are available only to Clayton residents.


Concord

Free, self-filled sandbags (up to 25) are available for residents at the Corp. Yard located at at  1455 Gasoline Alley

Danville
Free sandbags are available to be filled at 1000 Sherburne Hills Road, off of Camino Tassajara next to the Town of Danville Post Office. Residents are asked to take a maximum of 20 bags. Sand bags and a shovel are available for use; simply take a bag from the container, fill it with sand and then tie it closed with the attached strings.


El Cerrito & Kensington
7501 Schmidt Lane

If you need sandbags to prevent flooding from the street into your driveway, garage, home or business (in preparation before a storm hits or after the storm has arrived), you can obtain a maximum of ten (10) bags per household or business per year. Please bring proof of address. The sand pile and bags are available for El Cerrito and Kensington residents/businesses only. You will need to fill the bags yourself. There is an enclosure just inside the gate of the El Cerrito Recycling Center (at 7501 Schmidt Lane). During the winter months, it is filled with sand and empty bags are provided. Lafayette

During the rainy season, fill-them-yourself, 24/7 sandbag stations are set up for Lafayette property owners at the following two (2) locations:

  • Corner of Mt Diablo Boulevard at Village Center (across from the Veteran’s Memorial Building)
  • Corner of Camino Diablo and Loveland (west of the public works corporation yard).

To insure sufficient sand and bags are available, please only take what you need.  If the station needs supplies, notify Public Works at 925-934-3908.  (The station is re-stocked during normal business hours.)  Sandbags can also be obtained from local home improvement or construction material stores for a nominal fee.  More info

Martinez

The City of Martinez is offering sandbags for pickups at multiple locations which include:

  • Rankin Swimming Pool (upper parking lot)
  • Ferry & Allen St
  • F St. (located at the west end of F St. off of Alhambra Ave. at the beginning of the park district trail, just past Alhambra High School)
**Please note sand bags are at a separate location and can be picked up either at City Hall (525 Henrietta St) or at the Corporation Yard (300 Alhambra Ave)**

Oakley
A free sand bag station is available at ISD at 450 Walnut Meadows Dr. M-F 8 a.m. to 5 pm. It’s self-service the sand and bags are provided and residents can shovel & fill the bags.

Orinda

Sand and sandbags, which residents fill themselves, are available for Orinda residents at the following Moraga-Orinda Fire District locations:

  • Station Number 43
    • 20 Via Las Cruces (nearest cross street Charles Hill Road)
  • Station Number 44
    • 295 Orchard Road (nearest cross street Moraga Way)

Pinole
The City of Pinole is located in a low flood zone.  During high tides and heavy rainy seasons certain areas in the City may experience some flooding.  To assist the citizens of Pinole with flooding preparation, the City offers sandbags on a first come, first serve (self serve), while supply last. Citizens may obtain sand and sandbags at the rear of the Plum Street Public Parking Lot off Tennent Avenue.   The material are available for any citizen and are on a self-service basis.


Pittsburg
357 E.12th Street
Protect your home or business from flooding by picking up FREE sandbags at our Corporation Yard at 357 E.12th Street from 7AM-3PM (M-F). There is a limit of 10 sandbags per resident and you must show ID.


Pleasant Hill
320 Civic Dr.
The City has provided sandbag fill stations at City Hall 100 Gregory Ln, the Community Center parking lot at 320 Civic Dr and a parking lot on the north side of Hawthorne Dr opposite of Pleasant Oaks Park.

Richmond

The city of Richmond has sandbags available to residents at no cost. Limited to 10 bags and all bags are self-serve (must be filled by resident). Sandbags can also be delivered to the disabled or elderly (call 510-231-3011). Pick up at Bayview Fire Station or Corporation Yard

  • Bayview Fire Station (4801 Bayview Avenue) or
  • Rear entrance to the Corporation Yard (next to 10 Harbour Way).

San Pablo
Sand bags are a simple, but effective way to prevent or reduce water damage from flooding. Properly placed sand bags act as a barrier to prevent water from getting inside your home.  The City of San Pablo provides free sand bags for residents at the entrance of Davis Park at 1665 Folsom Avenue. Sand bags are available 24 hours a day during winter months.  For more information call: (510) 215-3070.


San Ramon

Sandbag supplies have been made available for public use. San Ramon residents or businesses that require sand or sandbags must bring a shovel and helping hands to one of four locations for supplies (bags and sand provided):

  1. Athan Downs, Montevideo Drive near San Ramon Valley Blvd
  2. Central Park, Alcosta Blvd adjacent to the San Ramon Community Center
  3. San Ramon Sports Park, Sherwood Way
  4. Fircrest Laneone pallet of filled sandbags

Walnut Creek

In preparation for the winter season, the City stocks five sandbag stations as a service for its residents. Sand and bags are available from the City of Walnut Creek at the following locations:

  • Lancaster Road near Orchard Lane
  • Heather Farm Park Community Center parking lot (north end)
  • Larkey Park parking lot
  • Howe Homestead Park parking lot
  • Rudgear Park parking lot

Bags and sand are provided for residents at the sandbag stations. However, shovels are not provided. Please bring your own shovels. If you have questions about the City’s sandbag stations, please contact [email protected] or (925) 943-5854 with questions.


County Run Sandbag locations

If you’re concerned about flooding at your home or business when the rainy season hits, you can visit one of the sandbag stations located throughout the county. Please note that you’ll need to bring a shovel, but bags and sand are available for free.

Ambrose Recreation Center/CCC Family Service Center
3105 Willow Pass Road, Bay Point
Bags are located in a large green plastic trash bin on the west side of the parking lot next to the fence line approximately ¾ of the way back to the playing fields.

Byron Airport
500 Eagle Court, Byron

Bags are located in the pump house at the junction of Byron Hot Springs Road and Holey Road. Contact Airport staff at 925-634-0147 for access. The sand cradle is located on the west side of the pump house.

Howe Homestead
2950 Walnut Blvd Walnut Creek

Knightsen Farm Bureau Building/County Agriculture,
3020 2nd St. in Knightsen
Located at the north end of the parking lot next to the building.

West County Detention Facility
5555 Giant Highway Richmond
