OAKLAND, CA. – The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has charged three men for the murder of 23-month-old Jasper Wu in November of 2021.

On Thursday, December 15, 2022, 34-year-old Johnny Jackson of Richmond, 22-year-old Trevor Green of Richmond, and 24-year-old Ivory Bivins of Vallejo, were charged in Alameda Superior Court with murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Trevor Green and Ivory Bivins will also be charged with conspiracy and gang related charges.

On Saturday November 6, 2021, at 2:10 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Golden Gate Communications Center received a call of a freeway shooting on Interstate 880 (I-880), in the City of Oakland. Victims of the shooting were traveling in a white Lexus sedan, southbound on I-880 near Filbert Street, when their vehicle was suddenly struck by gunfire. Jasper Wu was riding in the rear seat of the Lexus when he was struck by a stray bullet. Tragically, Jasper did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital shortly after arrival.

Through an intense and exhaustive investigation over the last 13 months, detectives assigned to the CHP’s Golden Gate Division Special Investigations Unit, in cooperation with numerous other law enforcement agencies, worked countless hours to identify the suspects as being involved in a rolling gun battle as they traveled on I-880, near the vehicle the Wu’s were traveling in. With complete disregard for the safety of anyone else on the road, the suspects continuously fired between the two vehicles which led to a stray bullet striking Jasper as he sat in his car seat.

Our commitment to bringing those responsible for Jasper’s murder to justice remains paramount, and although charges have been filed, this investigation is still ongoing. As such, no further information regarding this case will be released at this time.

We would like to thank the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and their investigative team, the California Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the San Francisco Police Department, the Oakland Police Department, the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and the Alameda County crime lab. All of these agencies worked tirelessly and side by side with us to bring this case to a successful conclusion.

The Mission of the California Highway Patrol is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.

ACDA Office Announces Murder Charges Against Three Defendants in Death of Baby Jasper

OAKLAND, CA — Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley announced today her office filed murder charges in the death of baby Jasper Wu, who was killed November 6, 2021 when caught in a rolling gun battle on Interstate 880 in Oakland.

Defendants Trevor Green, Ivory Bivins and Johnny Jackson were each charged with Penal Code 187(a) murder, PC 246 shooting at an occupied vehicle and PC 29800(a)(1), possession of a firearm by a felon. Bivins and Green were also charged with PC 182(a)(1), conspiracy to commit a crime and PC 182.5, criminal street gang conspiracy.

On November 6, 2021 at 2:07 p.m. Defendants Green and Bivins were driving a dark Infiniti while defendant Jackson and another man, Keison Lee, were in a dark gray Nissan Altima. The two parties engaged in a gun battle on 880 in Oakland.

During the shooting, a shot fired from the Infiniti missed the intended target, the Nissan Altima. Instead, it traveled across the highway into oncoming southbound traffic, and went through the windshield of the vehicle Jasper was riding in.

Jasper, who was only 23 months old at the time, was shot in the head while riding in his car seat. He was pronounced dead at a nearby children’s hospital.

“This horrific tragedy is a parent’s worst nightmare: An innocent child struck by gunfire while riding in the car,” said DA O’Malley. “Our community mourns with the Wu family. My office will work tirelessly to bring these culprits to justice for the Wu family and for our community.”

“I want to thank the California Highway Patrol Golden Gate Division and our federal and local justice partners including the FBI, California DOJ, OPD and SFPD for their collaboration in this intensive investigation and tireless work in identifying and apprehending these defendants.”

“The depraved indifference shown by these suspects shocks us all and cannot be tolerated,” said CHP Golden Gate Division Chief Ezery Beauchamp. “The Wu family has suffered an unspeakable loss, and our hearts ache for them. Bringing these suspects to answer for their crimes is the result of an incredible team effort, and we are grateful for our allied agency partners that worked with us throughout the investigation.”

Both defendants Green and Bivins were arrested on warrants for an incident in Contra Costa County in March 2022. They will be transferred to Alameda County to face their charges. Jackson was arrested Wednesday on a warrant. Mr. Lee was shot and killed in November 2022.

Jackson is expected to be arraigned on Friday morning at 9 a.m. at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse, Department 112.

Please note that because is now a pending case, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office will not be making any further comments.

If they're guilty, we'll be praying for their brutal rape and dismemberment. Praying the jail staff and inmates can bring the baby and family some jailhouse justice. Amen🤫🙏🏼
