The following is a sampling of the Richmond Police Calls reported between December 1-15 which focuses on the higher priority call responses in the City of Richmond.

According to Richmond Police, officers responded to 786 calls for service during this period. Please note that activities shared in these segments are provided only as an overview and do not reflect the entirety of service calls and reports taken throughout each shift.

  • Dec. 12-15: 786 calls where during this reporting period, a total of twenty-nine (29) officers, five (5) sergeants, and three (3) lieutenants reported for forced and/or mandatory overtime shifts to meet minimum staffing requirements.
  • Dec. 9-11: 512 calls where during this reporting period, a total of eleven (11) officers and two (2) lieutenants reported for forced and/or mandatory overtime shifts to meet minimum staffing requirements.
  • Dec. 5-8: 764 calls during this reporting period, a total of thirty-five (35) officers, one (1) sergeant, and three (3) lieutenants reported for forced and/or mandatory overtime shifts to meet minimum staffing requirements.

CALLS FOR SERVICE

 

ARSON

  • 12/1 – Officers responded to a vehicle on fire in the 4800 block of Central Ave. RFD responded and extinguished the fire. Empty accelerant containers were located in the vehicle. RFP arson investigators to assume the investigation. #9674

 

ASSIST TO OUTSIDE AGENCY

  • 12/3 – Officers responded to the Kaiser Hospital after a gunshot victim arrived. Officers were able to determine that the victim was shot while at a sideshow in Oakland. Officers secured the victim’s vehicle and stood by until Oakland PD responded to assume the investigation. #9705

 

ASSAULT W/DEADLY WEAPON

  • 12/3 – Officers responded to the area of Carlson Ave and Imperial Ave for reports of an assault with a pipe. Officers responded and located the victim, who stated he was at the gas station getting into his vehicle when a subject he knows approached and, without provocation, hit him in the head with a metal pipe. The suspect then fled. The victim sustained a large laceration and was treated at a local hospital. #9703
  • 12/4 – Officers responded to the 1200 block of Macdonald Ave for reports of an attempted stabbing. The security guard for the shopping center reported that he asked a subject that was loitering to leave the property. The suspect became upset and produced a knife, and began to try to stab the victim. The victim was able to back away and call RPD. Officers checked the area and located the suspect, whom the victim positively identified. A knife was located where the suspect was located. The suspect was booked at the RPD jail. #9729
  • 12/12 – Officers responded to the 3500 block of Wall Ave for reports of a shooting. While en-route, officers also received a “ShotSpotter” activation in that area. Officers responded and located the victim who was suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was uncooperative and was transported to a local trauma center for treatment. Officers located multiple bullet casings at the scene that were collected as evidence. #9933
  • 12/15 – Officers responded to the 100 block of Cutting Blvd for a report of a shooting. Officers located the victim, who was suffering from a single gunshot wound. Officers determined that the suspect and victim were coworkers. They got into a physical altercation after the suspect was ordered to go home. During the altercation, the suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim. The suspect remained on scene and was taken into custody without incident. The suspect’s firearm was also recovered and collected as evidence. The victim was transported to a local trauma center for medical treatment. #9987

 

ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON, DUI, POSSESSION OF A FIREARM

  • 12/12 – Officers responded to the 2900 block of Ohio Ave for reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. Officers located the victim, who indicated he had been in a minor traffic collision with the suspect. The victim got out of his vehicle and called RPD. This prompted the suspect to get back into his vehicle and attempt to run the victim over. The victim and his vehicle were struck again by the suspect, who then fled the scene. The victim got a license plate number for the suspect vehicle, which led officers to the 200 block of Civic Center Ave. While searching for the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect drove up to the location, and officers contacted him. Officers determined that the suspect was extremely intoxicated and uncooperative. The victim responded and positively identified the suspect as the driver who crashed into them. A search of the suspect’s vehicle resulted in a loaded handgun being recovered.  The suspect was booked into the RPD jail, and his vehicle was impounded. #9934

 

AUTO BURGLARY

  • 12/11 – Officers responded to the 4500 block of Macdonald Ave for reports of an auto burglary. The victim advised they finished their shift and was walking to their vehicle when they saw their window had been broken and their door was open. The victim saw a subject inside their vehicle rummaging for items to steal. The suspect attempted to flee, but the victim detained him until officers arrived on the scene. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the RPD jail.

 

BATTERY

  • 12/7 – Officers responded to the 2000 block of Ohio Ave for reports of a domestic battery. The victim reported that she was in an argument with her ex-boyfriend. During the argument, the suspect struck the victim several times in the head, causing significant swelling and bruising. The suspect fled prior to officers arriving on the scene. A short time later, the suspect arrived at RPD to turn himself in. Officers took the suspect into custody without incident. #9802

 

BRANDISHING FIREARM

  • 12/3 – Officers responded to reports of a male and female in a verbal argument in the 100 block of South 31st St. The victim went to check on the two subjects that were arguing, and the male suspect displayed a firearm to the victim. The victim retreated and called RPD. Officers surrounded the residence and attempted to contact the occupants. After a lengthy standoff, the male subject exited the residence. The suspect resisted officers’ attempts to detain him, and after a brief struggle, the suspect was detained. Officers recovered a firearm, and the suspect was booked at RPD jail. #9717

 

BRANDISHING REPLICA FIREARM

  • 12/13 – Officers responded to the 400 block of Carlson Blvd for reports of a subject armed with a firearm. The victim reported a subject standing on the corner holding a handgun, waving it around and pointing it at passing vehicles.  Officers responded and located the suspect standing on the corner with a firearm. The suspect refused the officer’s commands to drop the gun. Officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect, but she refused to comply. Officers deployed less-than-lethal weapons and were able to disarm the suspect. The suspect was determined to be in possession of a replica firearm. Further investigation revealed that the suspect was suffering from a mental health crisis. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for mental health treatment. #9939

 

CARJACKING

  • 12/10 – Officers responded to the 12100 block of San Pablo Ave for reports of a carjacking. Officers contacted the victim, who said he was walking to his vehicle when a suspect armed with a firearm approached him. The suspect pushed the victim to the ground and stole his keys and property. The suspect then got into the victim’s vehicle and fled. #9893

 

DUI SATURATION PATROLS

  • 12/13 – The RPD traffic unit conducted OTS grant-funded DUI saturation patrols throughout the city. The goal of the operations was to take impaired drivers off the streets. Officers conducted 33 traffic stops and conducted 11 DUI investigations. A total of 19 citations were issued for various vehicle code violations.

 

EVADING POLICE, WARRANT ARREST

  • 12/6 – Officers attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations in the area of 7th St and Hensley St. The vehicle failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. Officers terminated the pursuit after a short distance due to public safety concerns. A short time later, officers received reports of a suspicious vehicle blocking the road near Grays Circle and Stenmark Drive. Officers responded and located the vehicle that had fled from the traffic stop. Officer contacted the occupants and determined that the driver had outstanding warrants. The driver was arrested without incident. #9771

 

GRAND THEFT

  • 12/9 – Officers responded to the 1700 block of Nevin Ave for a report of a bicycle theft. Officers contacted two juveniles who had traveled to Richmond from Alameda to sell two expensive bicycles to a subject they met on the application “offer up.” When the juveniles arrived at the location to sell the bikes, they were accosted by 3 subjects wearing ski masks who stole their bikes. Unbeknownst to the thieves, the juveniles had hidden a GPS tracker on one of the bikes. Officers were able to track the stolen bicycles to the 1900 block of Chanslor Ave, where the bikes were recovered. Due to the suspects wearing ski masks, officers were unable to identify who the thieves were. The bikes were returned to their juvenile owners, and their parents responded to take them and the bikes home. #9875

 

MENTALLY ILL PERSON

  • 12/9 – Officers responded to the 500 block of 19th St for reports of a male walking around brandishing a knife. Officers located the subject, who cooperated and discarded his knife. Officers determined that the subject was intoxicated and suffering from a mental health crisis. The subject was transported to a local hospital for mental health assistance. #9870

 

NEGLIGENT DISCHARGE OF FIREARM

  • 12/11 – Officers responded to the 2600 block of Esmond Ave for a ShotSpotter activation. Officers responded and located numerous shell casings in the area of the park. Officers located a witness who reported seeing a subject firing a handgun into the air. Officers were unable to locate anything struck by the gunfire. The shell casings were collected to be processed as evidence. #9904
  • 12/14 – Officers responded to the 200 block of Nevin Ave for a “ShotSpotter” activation. Officer located bullet casings in the area. An area check resulted in no victims being located. The casings were collected as evidence. #9983

 

POSSESSION OF A FIREARM ON SCHOOL CAMPUS

  • 12/12 – Officers responded to the 1200 block of 23rd St (Richmond High School) for reports of a student who had been found with a handgun. School security located the firearm during a random security check. The firearm was determined to be a loaded “ghost gun.” School security confiscated the gun without incident and detained the student until RPD arrived on the scene. Due to the quick actions of school security, the situation was quickly resolved with minimal disruption to the campus. Through the investigation, officers and school security were able to confirm there was no ongoing threat to the school. The firearm was collected as evidence, and the juvenile was transported to Juvenile Hall. #9920

 

POSSESSION OF STOLEN VEHICLE, WARRANT ARREST

  • 12/6 – Officers on routine patrol observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Hensley St and Castro St. Officers contacted the occupants and determined that the vehicle was reported stolen. A records check showed the vehicle driver had four outstanding warrants for their arrest. The driver was taken into custody without incident and the vehicle was recovered. #9769

 

ROBBERY, ARMED

  • 12/6 – Officers responded to the 11900 block of San Pablo Ave for reports of a robbery. The victim reported they were sitting outside the business when the suspect approached them. Without provocation, the suspect grabbed the victim and struck them in the face and stomach. The suspect then grabbed the victim’s wallet out of their pocket and fled. Officers checked the area for the suspect but were unable to locate them. #9798
  • 12/8 – Officers responded to the 4800 block of Macdonald Ave for reports of a robbery. The victim reported they had made a withdrawal from the bank and placed the money on the rear seat of her vehicle upon exiting the bank. As the victim prepared to leave the parking lot, the suspect suddenly appeared and broke her car’s window to steal the money withdrawn from her rear seat. The suspects then fled in a white Audi.  A short time later, Sheriff’s Deputies in Bay Point observed suspects removing the license plates from a white Audi. Deputies attempted to stop the Audi, but it fled from them. The Audi fled to Oakland, where the occupants abandoned the vehicle. Deputies located some of the victim’s property in Bay Point where they originally saw the Audi. The victim’s property was recovered and the Audi was impounded as evidence. #9845
  • 12/15 – Officers responded to the 1000 block of Market St for reports of a robbery. Officers located the victim, who said he was approached by two suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The suspects assaulted the victim and stole his wallet. The suspects then fled. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspects. #10005

 

SIDESHOW

  • 12/2 – Officers responded to the 4500 block of Macdonald Ave after a group of approx. Fifty vehicles that appeared to be gathering in preparation for a sideshow. Officers were able to disperse the group. A short time later, officers received reports of approx.—300 vehicles caravanning into the city heading towards the mall. Officers responded and were again able to disperse the group.
  • 12/3 – Officers responded to a report of numerous vehicles driving recklessly and “spinning donuts” in the 1300 block of Canal Blvd. Officers responded and were able to disperse the group.
  • 12/4 – Officers responded to the 4800 block of Central Ave for reports of a sideshow with 200 vehicles involved. Officers responded and were able to disperse the group. The group continued to relocate to various locations throughout the city, with officers following and dispersing the group. After approx. 1-hour officers were able to disperse the group outside the city limits.
  • 12/8 – Officers on patrol in the 1300 block of Canal Blvd could hear the sound of vehicles “spinning donuts.” They responded and located three vehicles driving recklessly and three spectators watching. Officers stopped the three vehicles and the spectators. The drivers and spectators were issued citations and released at the scene.
  • 12/8 – Officers responded to the 4500 block of Macdonald Ave after a group of approx. Fifty vehicles that appeared to be gathering in preparation for a sideshow. Officers were able to disperse the group. A short time later, officers received reports of approx.—300 vehicles caravanning into the city heading towards the mall. STALKING, CRIMINAL THREATS

  • 12/4 – Officers responded to the 1300 block of Virginia Ave for a report of stalking. The suspect had been threatening his ex-wife and vandalizing her residence. Later in the day, officers located the suspect driving. Officers conducted an enforcement stop on the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect refused to cooperate and produced a knife. The suspect brandished the knife at officers and told officers they were going to have to kill him.  After a lengthy standoff, officers were able to utilize several non-lethal tools to take the suspect into custody. The knife was recovered, and the suspect was booked into the RPD jail. #9735

 

STOLEN VEHICLE

  • 12/13 – Officers on routine patrol checked a suspicious vehicle in the area of Central Ave and San Joaquin St. A records check showed the vehicle had been reported stolen to Berkeley PD. Two suspects were located inside the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody without incident, and the passenger was released at the scene. #9940
  • 12/13 – Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a suspicious vehicle in the area of 37th St and Garvin Ave. The vehicle initially fled from officers. The vehicle then stopped, and the driver fled on foot. Officers chased the suspect on foot and were able to take him into custody a short distance away. A records check showed that the vehicle was reported stolen. The driver was booked into the RPD jail. #9965
