The following is a sampling of the El Cerrito Police Calls reported between December 2 which focuses on the higher priority call responses in the City of El Cerrito.

Assault

  • 12/14 – Ashbury Ave. / C St: At 7:45 am, an unknown suspect yelled racial slurs and spat at the victim.  Luckily the victim was seated in his vehicle with the windows up and was not struck by spit.  The victim fled the area and called police. (Hate crime)

Auto Burglary

  • 12/9 – Parking Lot of 7000 El Cerrito Plaza: At 8:49 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect smashed out the front passenger’s side window of the victim’s vehicle and removed property.
  • 12/16 – 11720 San Pablo Ave: An unknown suspect shattered the windows to two parked vehicles and stole the victim’s backpacks. The suspect was described as a black male adult, in his 20’s, wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, black pants and white shoes. The suspect fled in a white BMW SUV northbound on San Pablo Ave., which was driving by a second suspect.  The burglary occurred today from 11:41am to 11:47am.

Battery

  • 12/2 – 6500 Block of Portola Dr:At 3:11 AM, an officer reports the victim and his 24-year-old wife  were consuming alcohol at their home when they began arguing over their relationship issues.  During the argument, the wife bit the victim on the back and finger several times. The wife was placed under arrest and transported to the ECPD for booking. After booking, the wife was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. (felony)
  • 12/12 – IFO 10462 San Pablo Ave: At approximately 9:54am, officer’s responded to a fight between two males.  The suspect kicked the victim and fled into the McBears bar.  The victim did not sustain any injuries, declined medical attention and did not want prosecution.  The suspect fled McBears prior to police arrival, but was contacted later via telephone.
  • 12/16 – 10203 San Pablo Ave: At approximately 12:58pm a 34-year-old male from Sacramento pushed his aunt to the ground, during a verbal argument.  The male was placed under Citizen’s Arrest.  The male had a Probation Violation warrant for his arrest from Solano County.  The male was given a citation for the battery and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility on his warrant. (Battery on Person and Warrant Arrest)
  • 12/18 -1700 block of Liberty Street: At 3:45 am while investigating the above incident a subject became angry with one of their family members and shoved them to the ground in front of an officer.  The subject was placed under arrest, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. (Battery, Public Intoxication)

Burglary – Commercial

  • 12/16 – Dentistry for the Family 11100 San Pablo Ave: An unknown suspect shattered the front glass door to the building to gain entry.  Once inside, the suspect stole a credit card reader.  The burglary occurred on Thursday December 15th at 5:30pm to Friday December 16th at 7:40am.

Burglary – Residential

  • 12/9 – 2400 block of Tulare Ave.: An unknown suspect entered the residence via an unlocked sliding door and stole a portable A/C unit.  The owner is in the process of renting the residence.  The incident occurred from October 12th – December 4th.

Carjacking

  • 12/7 – 11600 block of San Pablo Ave: At 4 pm, the victim was exiting his vehicle when he was confronted by two unknown suspects.  One of the suspects was armed with a handgun.  The suspects demanded the victim’s keys and cell phone.  The victim complied and the suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle.  The vehicle was soon located by the San Francisco Police Department.  After a brief pursuit, an 18-year-old San Francisco man and a 19-year-old San Francisco man were arrested.  The men were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.  The victim’s vehicle was returned to him.

Hate Crime

  • 12/16 – San Pablo Ave at Carlson Blvd: At approximately 3:04pm, while the victim was waiting at the bus stop, the suspect began to call the victim homosexual slurs, threatened to harm the victim and began to walk towards him.  A citizen stepped in between them and the suspect walked towards the Plaza.  The suspect was described as a mixed race male 30’s, 6’3”, 220lbs., with long brown hair in a messy ponytail, wearing a multi-colored flannel shirt over a grey hoodie, blue jeans and dark colored shoes with white soles.  The suspect was last seen boarding an AC transit bus, northbound on San Pablo Ave.

Providing false information to officers

  • 12/15 – Ohlone Greenway / Portola Dr: At 3:57 pm, officers located a 37-year-old Richmond man climbing out of a BART construction site.  The man provided several different iterations of his name.  The man was arrested and searched.  Officers located methamphetamine and a glass smoking pipe.  The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department then cited and released.  (Possession of a controlled substance, Possession of drug paraphernalia, Possession of burglary tools)

Grand Theft

  • 12/2 – 900 block of Galvin Dr.: The victim’s catalytic converter was stolen from their Toyota Prius.  The incident from November 30th to December 2nd.
  • 12/5 – Parking lot of 420 El Cerrito Plaza: At 10:10 hours, a passerby witnessed a man underneath a vehicle in the parking lot.  He watched as the man emerged with a catalytic converter and fled in a vehicle.  Officers were able to locate the owner of the vehicle and confirmed a theft occurred.
  • 12/6 – 900 block of Arlington Blvd: Sometime between 12/3 and 12/4, an unknown suspect stole a package from the victim’s porch.
  • 12/6 – 1700 block of Julian Ct: Sometime between 12/4 and 12/6, an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle.
  • 12/11 – Ross 11545 San Pablo Ave: Two unknown suspects entered Ross, selected miscellaneous merchandise, and left without paying.  The first suspect was described as a black female adult, 40’s, wearing a black jacket and grey sweatpants.  The second suspect was described as a black female adult, in her 40’s, wearing a black puff coat and white sweatpants.  They fled in a 2000’s white Toyota Camry.
  • 12/15 – 7000 El Cerrito Plaza (Daiso): At 8:42 hours, a black electric “dirt bike” was stolen from in front of Daiso while its owner was inside the store shoplifting.  As soon as he realized his bike was being stolen, he abandoned his own theft and asked the store staff to call the police for him.  The stolen bike was a black Sur-Ron X Light Bee electric dirt bike worth about $4,400.  The bike was missing a battery cover, and it had a RELJADOS sticker on the back and a flat rear tire.

Identity Theft

  • 12/12 – 1600 Navellier St: An unknown suspect opened an AT&T U-verse account in the victim’s name.

Organized Retail Theft

  • 12/9 – Ross 11545 San Pablo Ave. At approximately 4:54pm three suspects entered Ross and stole over $1000.00 worth of miscellaneous items.  The suspects were described as two black male adults wearing black beanies and one black female adult, heavy set, wearing a red jacket.  The suspects fled in a black Toyota sedan southbound on San Pablo Ave.
  • 12/11 – CVS, 670 El Cerrito Plaza: At 9:01 PM, officers were dispatched to CVS for 10 males “taking everything”. Officers detained two juvenile males matching the description at the El Cerrito Plaza BART station. The juveniles were positively identified during an infield show-up and placed under Citizen’s Arrest. The juveniles were transported to the ECPD for booking. After booking, the juveniles were released to their guardians. $1900 worth of merchandise was returned to the business.

Petty Theft

  • 12/2 – Tigon, 10086 San Pablo Ave.:  At 9:09 PM, an officer reports a 41-year-old female from Alamo was captured on security video removing an unknown amount of cash from the tip jar. Several employees followed the female to the El Cerrito Plaza BART station and flagged down a BART officer. The female was detained without incident and placed under Citizen’s Arrest. The female was positively identified and issued a citation in the field.
  • 12/5 – 1400 block of Navellier St: The victim’s license plates did not show up at his residence when promised.  After waiting several additional weeks, the plates were never delivered.
  • 12/18 – 6400 block of Knott Avenue: At 7:16 pm an officer was sent to the report that someone stole the two license plates from the victim’s vehicle sometime during the day.

Robbery (Strongarm)

  • 12/5 – 7022 Stockton Ave (7-Eleven): At 7:35 PM, five suspects entered the 7-Eleven store carrying trash bags, ran behind the counter and stole several hundred dollars worth of cigarettes.  They also ordered the clerk to open the register or they would “beat him”.  The clerk opened the registers, and the suspects took approximately $300 cash.  No weapons were seen or claimed.  The suspects fled on foot westbound on Stockton Avenue.  S-1 was described as a Hispanic male, teens, 6’0″, 190 lbs., wearing a red hoodie, grey shorts, red shoes, and a mask and carrying a black garbage bag.  S-2 was described as a Hispanic male, teens, 6’0″, 160 lbs., wearing a grey hoodie, blue jeans, brown/white shoes, and a mask.  S-3 was described as a Hispanic male, early 20’s, 6’0″, 150lb, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black shoes, and a mask.  S-4 was described as a black male, early 20’s, 6’0″, 190lb, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black shoes, and a mask.  S-5 was described as a black male, early 20’s, 6’0″, 170lb, wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, black shoes, a mask, and carrying a brown satchel.
  • 12/15 – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 9:18 PM, an officer arrested a 36 year old Fairfield man after he failed to scan some of the items in his basket at the self-check kiosk.  When the man was confronted by security, he pulled a can out of his backpack claiming it was “bear spray”, and threatened to spray the security guard.  The man then fled with the unpaid cereal and milk.  An officer located Culver on Brighton Avenue and Cornell Avenue in Albany and he was positively identified during an in-field show up.  Booked at ECPD and transported to county where he was declined due to assorted medical issues.  Released at the county hospital per 849PC.

Shoplift

  • 12/8 – 11545 San Pablo Ave (Ross): At 9:20 PM, an officer was flagged down regarding an in progress shoplift, and detained a 35 year old unsheltered man as the suspect.  Ross placed the man under citizen’s arrest.  The suspect verbally identified with a slightly different name and no match could be found so he was transported to booking.   A small amount of methamphetamine was discovered during the search incident to arrest. (Shoplift / Possess Controlled Substance / Provide False Info to Police)
  • 12/10 – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross): At 9:47 PM, an officer was flagged down by a Ross employee and advised a male just walked out the store with unpaid merchandise. The male was located walking in the parking lot of the El Cerrito Plaza BART station and detained. The 53-year-old male was positively identified by the employee and placed under Citizen’s Arrest. The male was released on a citation in the field and the $408 worth of merchandise was returned to the business.
  • 12/13 – CVS, 670 El Cerrito Plaza: At 11:22 am, an unknown suspect entered the business, selected two bottles of rum, and fled on foot.
  • 12/14 – CVS, 670 El Cerrito Plaza: At 2:45 pm, a known suspect entered the store and told the manager to shut up or the suspect would beat her up.  The suspect then selected a tall bottle of beer and toilet paper before fleeing on foot.  Officers located and arrested a 47-year-old El Cerrito man.  The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police and released with a citation. (Criminal Threats, Shoplifting)

Shooting – Into Occupied Vehicle

  • 12/5 – 11299 San Pablo Ave:  At 8:50 PM, an unidentified suspect pointed a handgun at the victim in the parking lot of Little Caesars after a possible road rage incident.  The victim fled southbound on San Pablo Avenue and the suspect followed.  The victim heard what he believed to be a gunshot as the vehicles traveled southbound on San Pablo Avenue at Madison Avenue, but he believed the suspect was firing into the air.   As the chase continued, the victim drove past the police department, but instead of turning in to the lot, he turned southbound on Kearney Street then westbound on to Schmidt Lane where he heard another shot fired and heard a round hit the right side of his vehicle.  The chase continued on San Pablo Avenue, Central Avenue, and San Luis Avenue and another shot was fired on San Luis Avenue south of Carlson Boulevard but the vehicle was not hit.  The victim was able to make it to westbound I-80 where he finally lost his pursuer. The suspect vehicle was described as a newer model grey Honda CRV, unknown plate and nothing further.  The suspect was described only as a Hispanic male with a silver semi-automatic handgun.

Stolen Vehicle

  • 12/5 – 6900 block of Blake St: Sometime between 12/3 and 12/4, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2011 Toyota Camry.
  • 12/5 – Parking lot of 11939 San Pablo Ave: On 11/5/22, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s Demco car carrier trailer.  The victim was unaware for several weeks.
  • 12/6 – 800 block of Elm St: A white 2012 Hyundai Tucson SUV was stolen by an unidentified suspect.  A neighbor reported seeing the vehicle rolling down the street approximately 1:30 this afternoon.
  • 12/10 – At 2:45 PM, a victim reported the theft of a 2001 black BMW 325i from the area of Central Avenue at Kearney.
  • 12/16 – 6600 block of Manila Avenue: At 10:01 pm an officer was sent to the report that the victim’s vehicle was stolen from in front of the home earlier in the day.

Trespass

  • 12/2  – El Cerrito High School, 540 Ashbury Ave.: At 8:21 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 14-year-old juvenile male after he snuck onto the school campus several times during the football game. The juvenile refused to leave after being asked several times. The juvenile was transported to the ECPD for booking and release to his Godmother.
  • 12/17 – 11785 San Pablo Avenue (Launderland): At 7:50 pm an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest for a subject that had been asked repeatedly by the owner to leave but the subject refused to leave.  The subject was issued a citation at the scene and left the business.

Vandalism

  • 12/6 – 1800 block of Liberty St: At 12:50 pm, an unknown suspect shattered the rear passenger window of the victim’s vehicle with an unknown object.
  • 12/6 – 11645 San Pablo Ave (Freeway Motel): At 8:35 PM, a 45 year old Richmond woman, who was known to the victim, damaged the victim’s motel room door by striking the outside several times with a pick axe.  She then turned her attention to damaging the victim’s pickup truck by striking the windshield, hood and fender.  When the victim opened the motel room door to confront the suspect, she brandished the pick axe and threatened him.  The suspect then fled in an unknown direction by unknown means.
  • 12/6 – 1300 block of Linda Vista Dr: At 8:50 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 65 year old El Cerrito man after he became upset over his share of an inheritance.  The man brandished a handgun at his cousin and told him to get his 90-year-old mother out of there or he would shoot her.  The suspect fired 3 rounds into the floor to emphasize his point.  He picked up a hammer and proceeded to punch large holes in the sheetrock of nearly every wall in the house.  Emergency Protective Order granted and served.  (Vandalism / Elder Abuse / Criminal Threats / Brandishing)
  • 12/8 – 5600 block of San Diego St: Sometime between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm, an unknown suspect pried open the community mailboxes but nothing was stolen.
  • 12/11 – Parking lot of 3090 EC Plaza: An unknown suspect grabbed a chair from Starbucks and struck two parked vehicles with it.  The suspect was described as a black male adult, in his 30’s, tall, thin build, wearing a black/red flannel shirt and black pants.
  • 12/18 – 1700 block of Liberty Street; At 3:35 am officers were sent to the report that there was a person in front of the home yelling and hitting a vehicle.  When officers spoke to the victim she said the person broke a mirror on the vehicle.  An officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of the subject and they were booked at ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. (Vandalism, Public Intoxication, Probation violation)

Warrant

  • 12/8 – Cutting Blvd. / Peerless Ave:  An officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 26-year-old transient man for an outstanding warrant.  The man was released with a citation.
  • 12/11 – 11700 Block of San Pablo Ave: At 11:42 PM, officers were dispatched to the location for a disturbance between wife and husband. During a records check, the wife was found to have an active citable traffic warrant ($7500) out of Oakland. The wife was cited in the field and released on a citation.
  • 12/13 – Eastshore Blvd / San Pablo Ave: At 11:25 PM, an officer arrested a 38-year-old Roseville man during a traffic stop when it was determined he had a $10,000 warrant for burglary out of Riverside County.  The truck was registered out of Florida and the registered owner could not be contacted, so the truck was impounded per 22651(h)VC.  To county jail.
