Update: Man Pulled From Antioch Canal, Second Victim Not Located

At 2:10 pm Friday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and Antioch Police Department responded to a report of two people in the canal in the City of Antioch.

Firefighters were dispatched to the area of Deer Valley Road and Carpinteria Drive where the reports of the male being in the water. By 2:22 pm, firefighters reported one person was pulled from the water, however, a second person was not yet located.

Crews requested air support via the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Department and were utilizing a drone to search the waterway. A CONFIRE rescue boat was also dispatched and placed in the water.

As of 3:11 pm, crews were still working the scene.

UPDATE
As of 4:25 pm, CONFIRE could not locate a second person. They have terminated the search after covering a large area.

The male was pulled from the water by an Antioch Police Officer. It was also reported that the male heard someone in the canal and jumped in to try and save the missing victim. He attempted to show police and firefighters where he want in.

It takes 2 minutes for a child to drown. It was very noble of the gentlemen to jump in the canal after hearing voices of another victim. I hope this issue is resolved and everyone is safe.
