The following is a sampling of the El Cerrito Police Calls reported between December 2 which focuses on the higher priority call responses in the City of El Cerrito.

 

Assault w/Deadly Weapon

  • 12/23 – San Pablo Avenue near Central Avenue; At 11:16 pm while driving in the area a vehicle attempted to run another vehicle off the road several times.  At one point the vehicle pulled in front of the victim vehicle and stopped.  The occupant got out of the vehicle and pointed a firearm at the occupants of the other vehicle.  The victim vehicle drove away however the suspect began to follow them again attempting to ram their vehicle.  The driver of the victim vehicle swerved to avoid the suspect and hit the center median disabling the vehicle.  When they stopped the suspect again got out of their vehicle and pointed the firearm at the occupants of the victim vehicle.  Another vehicle in the area who had several witnesses inside of it said the suspect told them to get out of their vehicle.  When they did not the suspect attempted to ram their vehicle and then sped away.

 

Battery

12/31 – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave: At approximately 10:00am, the victims were standing in line behind the suspect at the cash register.  The suspect told them to go to another line.  The victims were confused, so the suspect yelled at them, spat at them and threw coins at them.  The victims called the police 2-3 hours after the incident.  The suspect is described as a black male adult, 30-40 years old, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

 

Burglary

  • 12/28 – At 0845 hours, the owner saw two female suspects walk down their long driveway and enter a detached storage shed and close the door behind them.  The owner’s confronted the suspects who stated they were there for a rental listing.
    (S1) – BFA, 20-30 years of age, black hair, 6’0” lean build wearing a cross necklace.
    (S2) – BFA, 20-30 years of age, black hair, 5’5” with a stalky build
  • 12/28 – 300 Block of Carmel Ave. (attempted): At 1423 hours, the caretaker of the property was upstairs when he heard the sound of glass breaking.  Upon walking downstairs, he observed a subjects arm reaching through the broken glass window next to the front door in an attempt to unlock it.  The caretaker yelled at the subject who fled the scene in an unknown direction.  Only description provided was a subject with a black jacket.
  • 12/30 – 710 El Cerrito Plaza (Albany Music School); At 6:28 pm an officer was sent to the report that the business had been burglarized sometime in the previous three days.
  • 12/31 – 6200 block of Cypress Avenue; At 10:34 pm an officer was sent to the report that the victim’s home was burglarized sometime in the previous few hours.

 

Burglary – Residential

  • 12/211000 block of Leneve Pl.: Sometime between the 18th and the 21st, an unknown suspect entered the residence (currently staged for sale) and stole miscellaneous bedding and bath items.
  • 12/27 – 5700 Block of Alta Punta Ave: An unknown suspect broke a downstairs window to gain access to the rear door.  The suspect conducted a light ransack of the residence and stole three miscellaneous items (stroller/jacket/gaming microphone) totaling $180.00.  Burglary occurred between 12/23/22 at 1800 hours – 12/26/22 at 1930 hours.  During the investigation, evidence was located at the scene from another burglary in the 5700 block of Fern St.  A possible suspect was identified and linked to the burglaries.
  • 12/31 – 6600 block of Gatto Ave. (attempted):   At approximately 9:00am the victim was inside their residence, when they heard their kitchen window screen being removed.  The victim looked out his window and saw the suspect removing the window screen. The suspect fled the area.  The victim contacted the police one hour after the incident.
    The suspect was described as a white male adult, 40-45 years old, 5’8”, medium build, with a beard, wearing a green/blue jacket with a hood.

 

DUI

  • 12/25 – San Pablo Avenue at Moeser Lane; At 5:27 am officers were sent to the report of a vehicle collision involving a bus where the bus driver believed the other driver was intoxicated.  When the officers arrived they were told that the suspect had driven away from the scene
  • 12/25 – Kearney Street at Potrero Avenue; At 5:35 am officers received a call about another vehicle collision on Kearney Street near Potrero Avenue.  When the officers arrived they found an overturned vehicle with the driver still inside.  Officers got the driver out of the vehicle and he was found to be extremely intoxicated.  The bus driver from the above collision was brought by an officer the second collision and the vehicle and driver were positively identified as the same who fled the scene of the above crash.  The driver was transported to the hospital by ambulance and when they were released they were arrested, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

 

Identity Theft

  • 12/22 – 11780 San Pablo Ave:  At 7:47 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect wrote checks on the victim’s bank account totaling a loss of over $80,000.

 

Possession of Stolen Property and Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) Violation

  • 12/24 – 1700 block Elm St:  At approximately 1:24pm, officers responded to a call of a trespasser in an apartment complex possibly stealing mail.  Officer’s located the suspect, a 40 year old male from Richmond in the 1700 block of Manor Circle.  The male was in possession of several stolen packages belonging to residents in the area. The male was on active Post Release Community Supervision out of San Mateo County for vehicle theft.   The male was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

 

Robbery

  • 12/27 – El Cerrito Plaza: At 1045 hours, a BMA, 30-40 years of age, 6’3” 300lbs, wearing a dark camo green/black hoodie and dark sweat pants, entered the business and selected $40.00 worth of deli meat.  As the suspect exited the business he pushed one of the employees and caused him to lose his balance.  Lucky provided a picture of the suspect who was later identified
  • 12/30 – Marshall’s 10759 San Pablo AveAt approximately 4:26pm officers responded to robbery that just occurred inside the store. A 39 year old female from El Sobrante, and a 24 year old female from San Jose, stole over $400.00 worth of items from the store and threatened an employee with a stun gun as they exited. The two suspects were detained walking southbound San Pablo Ave at Waldo Ave.  The victim positively identified the suspects during an infield show-up.  The first suspect had a no bail warrant from the Richmond Police Department for Domestic Violence and Assault with a Deadly Weapon, was in violation of a Court Order, and was on probation for False Identification to a police officer.  The second suspect is on parole for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, had a Probation Violation Warrant from the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office, and had a Parole Warrant from the California Department of Corrections. The suspects were arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.  (Robbery/Warrant Arrest/Violation of a Court Order/Convicted Felon in possession of a Stun Gun)

 

Theft

  • 12/20 – 500 block El Cerrito Plaza: An officer reports that the victim was contacted via text by an unknown number.  The victim began a conversation with the unknown suspect and a romance developed.  The suspect was able to convince the victim to send money via Apple Pay and gift cards.
  • 12/23 – 700 block of Pomona Ave.: On December 20th, at approximately 11pm, the suspect stole mail out of the victims front porch mailbox.  The suspect appeared to be a white or Hispanic male adult, 20-30 years old, wearing a light colored hooded sweatshirt. The victim captured the incident via his doorbell camera.
  • 12/24 – 900 block of Leneve Place; At 8:10 pm the victim called the police to report that a package had been stolen off of their front porch the day before.

 

Vandalism

  • 12/21 – 9900 block of San Pablo Ave.: Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect slashed several tires and broke rear view mirrors of two company owned pickup trucks.

 

Vehicle Theft

  • 12/20 – 6400 block of Portola Dr.: Sometime between the 18th and 19th, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2016 Hyundai Tucson.
  • 12/21 – 400 block of Richmond St.: Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1995 Toyota Tacoma.
  • 12/21 – San Mateo St / Central Ave:  A 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander was stolen from the street sometime between the 19th and the 21st.
  • 12/23 – 1800 block of Arlington Blvd; At 12:46 am the victim called the police to report that they had just heard their vehicle drive away from their house.
  • 12/27 – S. 56th St / Potrero Ave:  A 1994 Nissan Quest was stolen from the street sometime between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

 

Warrant Arrest

  • 12/21 – 800 block of Arlington Blvd An officer was dispatched to a loud music call in the area and contacted the subject, a 50-year-old El Cerrito man.  The officer found the man had a citable warrant for his arrest.  The officer cited the man and provided him with a new court date
  • 12/31 – 2000 block of Key Blvd:  At approximately 8:32am officers responded to a male jumping backyard fences northbound on Key Blvd.  Officers located the 40 year old male from Richmond, standing in a carport garage.    The male had a Burglary warrant from the El Cerrito Police Department, he was on Felony Probation for Burglary, and was in possession of a methamphetamine pipe.  The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. (Warrant Arrest/Probation Violation/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia)
