One Airlifted With Major Injuries After Crash in Brentwood

At 4:08 pm Thursday, Brentwood Police Department and Contra Costa County Fire responded to a major vehicle crash on Sand Creek Road near Minnesota Avenue in the City of Brentwood.

Crews arrived on scene to a van versus a brick wall with major damage and one person trapped in the vehicle. The incident shut down eastbound traffic on Sand Creek between Minnesota Avenue and O’Hara Avenue. Drivers were advised to avoid the area.

Contra Costa County Fire requested a medical helicopter as one person sustained major injuries. It also took them nearly 40-minutes to free the passenger who was pinned in the vehicle. The passenger was ultimately transported via medical helicopter to a trauma center. The condition is unknown.

Brentwood Police Sgt. Eric Wernholm said a solo vehicle crash on eastbound sand creek at O’Hara and for reasons unknown the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a brick wall. We have two victims. He did not elaborate further as the crash was under investigation.

At approximently 6:40 pm Thursday, all lanes had been reopened.
