San Pablo, CA – On November 26, 2022 at 3:10 a.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation of reported gunshots in the 1700 block of Bush Avenue in San Pablo. Officers arrived and found 18-year old male suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
It was reported the victim had confronted several suspects in front of his home as they attempted to break into his parked vehicle. The suspects fled to a Jeep vehicle standing by and one of the suspect passengers began shooting at the victim as they drove away.
SPPD Detectives responded to assume the investigation. With the assistance of the San Pablo Public Safety Cameras and weeks of surveillance, Detectives were able to identify the suspects as:
- Jose Alberto Torres Flores (26-years old) of Union City,
- Alexander Martinez (21-years old) of Newark,
- Eduardo Garcia Perez (20-years old) of Newark,
- Alexander Echeverria (20-years old) of Newark,
- Yoaxsi Alberto Garcia (19-years old) of Hayward.
During the course of the investigation, Detectives uncovered a sophisticated stolen vehicle ring in which these suspects and their associates targeted high-end Jeep SUV’s and Dodge Chargers for theft throughout the Bay Area.
SPPD Detectives coordinated with the Newark Police Department, as they had initiated a parallel investigation into the stolen vehicle ring.
On Thursday, January 19, 2023, a multi-agency operation took place in which search warrants were served in the following locations: 6200 block of Noel Avenue, Newark; 300 block of Riviera Drive, Union City; 36000 block of Cherry Street, Newark; 6300 block of Baine Avenue, Newark; and storage units located in Oakland and San Leandro.
Subsequently investigators seized/recovered the following: (17) Stolen vehicles with an estimated value of over $1-million; (12) Firearms; thousands of rounds of ammunition; ballistic body armor vests; high capacity magazines; gun silencers; and indicia of vehicle theft.
Jose Alberto Torres Flores was arrested at his home on Riviera Drive in Union City. Alexander Echeverria was arrested at his home on Baine Avenue in Newark. Alexander Martinez and Eduardo Garcia Perez were arrested later in the day at the Noel Avenue address in Newark by the Newark Police Department. Martinez, Perez, Echeverria, and Torres-Flores were subsequently booked into Contra Costa County Jail on charges of conspiracy, attempted homicide, vehicle theft, and weapons violations.
Yoaxsi Alberto Garcia remains outstanding and is wanted in connection with his involvement in this case. Garcia should be considered armed and dangerous.
