Walnut Creek, CA – Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10) announced that Krisha Singhani of San Ramon is the winner of the 2022 Congressional App Challenge (CAC) for California’s 11th Congressional District, which Congressman DeSaulnier represented prior to redistricting.

Singhani, a Monte Vista High School student, created TrueDetect, a wearable device that helps users track their levels of stress, anxiety, and depression by monitoring users’ heart rate, oxygen levels, body temperature, galvanic skin response, and heart rate variability. Singhani designed a wearable biosensor device which gathers and displays users’ data in real-time. The corresponding mobile app allows users to upload their results and can compare previous data to analyze and determine trends in stress or anxiety levels.

“As always, I am very impressed by the ingenuity and skill of all the students across our district who participated in this year’s app challenge and congratulate our winner on her remarkable submission,” said Congressman DeSaulnier. “Addressing issues of mental health, particularly among young people, has been a top priority of mine in Congress and I am proud of and grateful for Krisha’s efforts to provide support for those struggling with their mental health. Congratulations, Krisha!”

Second place was awarded to Andrew Zheng of Acalanes High School for his app Find which helps organize users’ digital photos and allows them to easily search for images. Third place was awarded to Ananth Venkatesh from San Ramon Valley High School for his app COVID-19 Notebook, which provides data on Contra Costa County’s COVID transmission and mortality rates while also generating predictions on transmission and spread based on historic data.

This year’s winner was chosen by a panel of judges from the STEM and education fields, all of whom live or work in California’s 11th Congressional District.

The CAC is a public initiative to encourage young people to learn how to code in an effort to inspire creativity and encourage interest in STEM education. In the first seven years of the Challenge, the CAC has inspired over 40,000 students across all 50 states to code. This is the eighth year Congressman DeSaulnier has hosted the CAC for his district.
