Lafayette BART Station Closed After Fatality on Tracks

The Lafayette BART Station remains closed after a fatal incident on the tracks Tuesday morning which is causing delays as CCTA is shuffling passengers from Orinda to Lafayette.

At around 6:30 am, BART said  Trains are not stopping at Lafayette due to a major medical emergency. CCCTA is providing bus service on line 6 between Lafayette and Orinda. Expect major delays on the Antioch line in the SFO Aiport and Antioch directions. (6:43 am) Riders can use the Orinda station while we respond to the major medical emergency at Lafayette station. Orinda has plenty of parking.

Per Contra Costa County Fire:

This morning around 6:30am fire crews from battalions 1, 2 and 4(Moraga-Orinda) were dispatched to the Lafayette BART station for reports of an individual who had jumped from the platform and was trapped below the train.

Upon arrival engine 15 and BC1 were able to assess the situation and direct incoming resources in anticipation of a potentially complex rescue effort involving fire crews, AMR, BART PD and BART engineers.

BART engineers arrived promptly and were able to shut down power to the tracks at which point engine 15 and truck 1 crews made their way to the victim in the small opening beneath the train. Once crews got to the victim it was determined that the person was unfortunately deceased as a result of their injuries.

Expect delays if you are using BART in the area as BART PD remains at scene to investigate the incident.

BART UPDATE

Lafayette station is closed due to a major medical emergency. If your destination is Lafayette take a train to orinda station and CCCTA buses will take passengers from Orinda to Lafayette.

UPDATE
Lafayette station is now open and trains are making normal stops. There is a 10-minute delay on the Antioch line in the SFO Airport and Antioch directions due to an earlier major medical emergency.
