ANTIOCH, Calif. —FORWARD, the leading integrated program administration solution for local governments, is partnering with the City of Antioch to provide up to a total of $1,000,000 to local small businesses who have been negatively impacted from the COVID-19 pandemic.

$500,000 of the program’s funding will be distributed as small business grants with businesses receiving between $5,000 – $15,000 and $500,000 will be allocated for façade upgrade reimbursements with businesses receiving between $5,000 – $25,000 depending on their eligibility.

“The effects of COVID-19 pandemic have not gone away, and small businesses across the City of Antioch continue to be negatively impacted by the pandemic,” said Kwame Reed, Director of Economic Development with the City of Antioch. “Small businesses are an important part of our economy and community. We are committed to ensuring our local, small businesses are set up for future success.”

To be eligible for this program, businesses must be operating with a valid Antioch business license in good standing and must be operating in Antioch city limits. Eligible businesses include those that have experienced a financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, must have an “active” status with the California Secretary of State, and cannot be a publicly traded company

When applying for program benefits, businesses should expect to provide a copy of an eligible photo ID, their City of Antioch business license, W-9 forms, 2021 tax returns, and proof of operation in Antioch city limits. These documents – along with others that may be required – will be used to verify that the business is eligible for resources.

The Small Business Grant Program provides payment that ranges dependent on 2021 total sales revenue, to eligible small businesses who are experiencing the negative financial impact of the pandemic and can be spent on allowable uses such as:

  • Overhead costs.
  • Costs associated with remaining open and meeting required safety protocols.
  • Rent relief or payment of back utilities.
  • Costs to retain employees, and more.

The Façade Upgrade Program will provide eligible reimbursement payments that ranges dependent on the business’s physical size and can be used to reimburse eligible work on the property’s first floor such as:

  • Brick and stone masonry.
  • Architectural metals.
  • Doors and windows.
  • Exterior carpentry and more.

“It is clear that the City of Antioch is committed to helping its small businesses and their surrounding communities,” said Adnan Mahmud, CEO of FORWARD. “The pandemic is hurting small businesses and this funding will aid them in multiple ways – operational expenses and upgrades in appearance. Our partnership with the city will help ensure this funding is distributed equitably and securely.”
