Taco Review: La Costa in Oakley

by CC News

In search of the perfect taco in Contra Costa County, I find myself in the City of Oakley at La Costa.

Now in fairness to La Costa, I’ve eaten there hundreds of time and can say with certainty I’ve never had a bad experience with this place in either its Oakley or City of Brentwood location. Its an East Contra Costa County staple so I figured it was the logical first stop on this journey to discovering fabulous taco’s around Contra Costa County.

The order was simple, two carne asada street tacos. The order arrived in less than 5 minutes. Rather than an open tray like normal, it was provided in a Styrofoam box (photo taken upon opening the box).  The best thing about their tacos is more meat than can fit in the taco shell is provided–meaning great portion size but it can get messy. In this case, it did come with too much salsa which I like to control but I did enjoy the major spillage.

Overall, meat was cooked perfectly and no complaints. A good meal at a good price. La Costa continues to provide a solid taco every time and sometimes consistency is all one needs which is why it has been around for decades.

Bonus item... try the La Costa Botana de Mariscos (seafood appetizer). A small is $10 or a large for $14—with two to three people, go with the large. Worth every penny with good avocado, shrimp, octopus, cucumber and more.
