1 Dead, 1 Injured in Early Morning Martinez Apartment Fire

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District is reporting one person is dead and another is in the hospital after an apartment fire in the City of Martinez Tuesday morning.

According to CONFIRE, units were dispatched at 2:58 am to a commercial structure fire in the city of Martinez.

Dispatchers initiated a second alarm immediately, based on the possibility of a rescue due to early reports. E14 arrived on scene and gave a condition report of light smoke coming from the corner of a 2 story apartment complex.

Captain 14 immediately conveyed that he had an occupant of the apartment in the window of the second story that needed to be rescued. E14 initiated the rescue with the use of a ground ladder.

Simultaneously, E13 forced the door open and initiated fire attack inside the structure.. They quickly found the second occupant and physically removed him down the stairs where he was handed off to E9 crew and Battalion 1 for life resuscitation measures. E13 continued with their fire attack and quickly brought the fire under control.

After attempting 40 minutes of life saving measures the occupant was pronounced at the scene.

Con Fire Investigator was on scene trying to determine the origin of the fire. At the conclusion of this incident there were no reported injuries to any Con Fire employees or damage to any equipment.
