Lafayette to Returns to In-Person Public Meetings on March 1

Press Release

by CC News
Lafayette City Council

Coinciding with the end of State’s Covid-19 State of Emergency Order on February 28, ALL regular City of Lafayette public meetings will return to being held in-person starting on March 1.

As a courtesy, and technology permitting, members of the public may participate virtually in regular meetings of City Council, Planning Commission, Design Review Commission and Transportation-Circulation Commission (Trans-Circ).

The City cannot guarantee that the public’s access to teleconferencing technology will be uninterrupted, and technical difficulties may occur from time to time. Unless required by the Brown Act, the meeting will continue despite technical difficulties for participants using the teleconferencing (Zoom) option.

Please refer to the meeting agenda for meeting location as well as instructions on how to make public comments via Zoom teleconference if the hybrid option is offered.

We appreciate your patience while we get used to the new audio-visual systems in both the Don Tatzin Community Hall and the Arts & Science Discovery Center rooms at the Lafayette Library.

What to expect during meetings with the hybrid option:

During each public comment period, members of the public (participating in-person or on Zoom) will have the opportunity to speak.

Zoom Participants: When the public comment period opens for the item on which you would like to comment, please use the “raise hand” feature in Zoom (or press *9 if connecting via telephone only) to alert staff you have a public comment to provide.

Remote public comments (via Zoom) will now be audio-only. This means members of the public wishing to address the Council/Board will be allowed to speak live, however, their video will no longer be shown and screensharing will not be an option.

When it is your time to speak, City Staff will call your name. In Zoom, you will be asked to unmute yourself. Click “unmute” and proceed to address the Council/Board.

In-room Participants: Complete a speaker slip and submit it to City staff. In addressing the Commission/Board, speakers should step to the podium to use the microphone.

You are encouraged to attend meetings in-person if you plan to make public comments since the City cannot guarantee that the public’s access to teleconferencing technology will be uninterrupted, and unless required by the Brown Act, the meeting will continue despite technical difficulties for participants using the teleconferencing (Zoom) option.
