Four Oakley Police officers Honored in Inaugural Award Ceremony

Press Release

by CC News

On February 22, 2023 the Oakley Police Department honored four of its members during the department’s inaugural award ceremony. A member of the Oakley Police Department can receive any of the following awards: Medal of Valor, Medal of Merit, Medal of Courage, Lifesaving Award and a Chief’s Certificate of Commendation. This year we recognized the following members:

  • Lieutenant Logan Cartwright was awarded a Chief’s Certificate of Commendation for his management and oversight during a major investigation.
  • Sergeant Kevin Morris was awarded a Medal of Merit for his performance and supervision during a critical incident.
  • Sergeant Casey Minister was awarded a Medal of Merit for his investigative efforts during a major investigation.
  • Detective Tyler Horn was awarded a Medal of Merit for his investigative efforts during a major investigation.
“I would like for this ceremony to be thought of as a celebration of the American police officer. I love the American police officer, I just happen to love the Oakley police officer a bit more, and today we are going to hear about some extraordinary efforts made by four of our members. Without the American police officer no other important element in our society could thrive or even exist. Our society functions the way it does because we are able to live our lives with a sense of relative safety and security because of the law enforcement industry. We are all able to feel safe in our homes and sleep in peace because we know our police forces are protecting us from the worst elements of humanity. In spite of our best efforts horrible things do sometimes still happen, but can you imagine a society completely void of police officers?
Today we are issuing awards to four of our members for certain actions they undertook. We take these awards seriously, they are not meant to be mere participation prizes, I had to make sure we were awarding only the most exemplary actions of our police officers. I want the members of the Oakley Police Department to know they are appreciated by myself, their Command Staff, City Management and our residents, and I am very proud of them.”

Casey Minister worked a theft case on my behalf several years ago. I just figured it was a lost cause. He worked the case so diligently that we got a conviction AND my stolen property back. It was an expensive ring that was stolen, but the sentimental value was priceless. Congratulations to Casey, and all the others!
