The following is a sampling of the El Cerrito Police Calls reported between February 5-11 which focuses on the higher priority call responses in the City of El Cerrito.

The following is a summary of criminal activity for the El Cerrito Police Department. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

Calls For Service

 

Brandishing Weapon

  • 2/15 – 11888 San Pablo Avenue (Nug): At approximately 2:59pm, while the victim was sitting in his vehicle the suspect pointed a black semiautomatic handgun at the victim.  The suspect then fled.

 

Burglary – Commercial

  • 2/13 – 2107 Kearney Street (D &H Construction): An unknown suspect used a brick to shatter the rear glass door to enter the business. The suspect rummaged through the office, but it is unknown what, if anything was stolen at the time of the report.  The incident occurred from February 11th at 11am to February 13th at 6:20am.

 

Burglary – Residential

  • 2/15 – 700 Block of Colusa Ave. At 2104 hours, officers responded to a call of a prowler and the suspect was trying to get inside the residence through the front door.  As officers arrived, the suspect started breaking windows to the home.  The suspect was arrested on scene and later transported to county jail.—also charged with brandishing and vandalism.
  • 2/16 – 6800 block of Cutting Blvd: At approximately 8:42am, a witness saw the suspect enter the residence and notified the police.  When officers arrived, the suspect exit the building, did not comply with officers commands and walked towards the backyard.  The suspect was last seen walking on Hagen Blvd towards Knott Ave.  Officer circulated the area but the suspect escaped.
  • 2/17 – 5400 block of Macdonald Ave: At 1:08 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect forced entry to the vacant residence sometime in the past week and stole mail.

 

DUI

  • 2/17 – San Pablo Ave./ Carlson Blvd: At 7:18 PM, an officer responded to a non-injury collision. During the investigation, the officer determined one of the drivers was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the El Cerrito PD for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.

 

Grand Theft

  • 2/13 – 3300 block of Santa Clara St: At 0348 hours, officers responded to a catalytic converter theft that just occurred.  Suspects fled prior to officers arrival.
  • 2/15 – Wildwood Pl.: At approximately 2:42pm the victim had a package stolen from their front porch.
  • 2/16 – 1200 block of Richmond St: At approximately 2:05pm, the catalytic converter to the victims Toyota Prius was stolen this morning between 5:00am to 5:10am.
  • 2/17 – 6500 Block of Stockton Ave: An officer reports at 5:30 PM, an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle.

 

Hate Crime

  • 2/14 – 410 El Cerrito Plaza (Verizon): At 1730 hours, the suspect entered the store and after getting in an argument with employees, produced pepper spray and threatened to spray the employee while make racial slurs.  The suspect left the store and there were no injuries to employees.

 

Indecent Exposure

  • 2/16 – 10602 San Pablo Avenue (Exxon): At approximately 1:13pm, the suspect parked near the gas pumps and began pleasuring himself.

 

Organized Retail Theft

  • 2/16 – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens): At 2201 hours, three subjects entered the business and walked behind the counter stealing several boxes of cigars and tobacco products.  The suspects fled.

 

Petty Theft

  • 2/14 – 1700 block of Lexington Ave.: The victim’s license plates were stolen from their vehicle from February 13th midnight to February 14th at 4pm.

 

Possession of Controlled Substance

  • 2/15 – 11299 San Pablo Avenue (Los Moles): At approximately 8:24am an officer contacted as subject to the rear of the business and learned the subject was on searchable probation out of San Francisco. During a search of the subject they were found to be in possession of a suspected fentanyl and drug paraphernalia.  The subject was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.

 

Robbery

  • 2/14 – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At approximately 5:19pm, three suspects attempted to leave the store with unpaid merchandise.  An employee grabbed the items from the suspects as they passed the registers and walked towards the exit doors.  The suspects pushed the employee to the ground and fled.

 

Sexual Battery/Drunk in Public

  • 2/15 – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS): At 2049 hours, officers were dispatched to an unwanted subject inside the business.  The subject grabbed an employee’s breast and left the store.  The subject later returned to the business and was arrested by officers.  The subject was later transported to county jail.

 

Shoplifting

  • 2/13 – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross): At 1910 hours, two subjects entered the business and stole $450 worth of shoes.
  • 2/13 – 11545 San Pablo Ave (Ross): At 2025 hours, one subject entered the business and stole $250 worth of shoes.

 

Vandalism

  • 2/17 – 1600 block of Liberty St: At 7:29 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect cut the exhaust pipe of the victim vehicle in an apparent attempt to steal the catalytic converter.  Occurred sometime overnight.

 

Vehicle Theft

  • 2/12 – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave:  At 3:59 PM, an officer reports unidentified suspect(s) attempted to steal the victim vehicle by cutting the club off the steering wheel and pushing the vehicle, however they were unsuccessful due to a second club.  Time of occurrence was between 2/11/2023 at 7:00 PM and 2/12/2023 at 8:15 PM.
  • 2/14 – 10636 San Pablo Avenue (24-Hour Fitness): An unknown suspect stole the victim’s wallet, clothing and keys to a rented vehicle, from the victims unsecured gym locker.  The victim went outside and found that his vehicle was stolen.  The incident occurred from 6:05am – 7:05am.
  • 2/14 – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave: The victim’s vehicle was stolen from the rear parking lot of the apartment complex from February 12th at 3pm to February 14th at 7:20am.
  • 2/14 – 2200 block Carquinez Ave: The victim’s vehicle was stolen from Feb. 13th at 2:00am to Feb 14th at 8:30am.
  • 2/15 – 2300 block Alva Ave.: The victim’s motorcycle was stolen from February 14th at 6pm to February 15th at 12pm.
  • 2/16 – 10900 block of San Pablo Ave: The victim’s vehicle was stolen from February 15th at 11pm. to February 16th at 10:00am.
  • 2/17 – 1800 Block of Key Blvd: An officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s pickup truck. The theft occurred in between 2/17 at 9:30 AM and 2/18 at 3:30 AM.

Warrant

  • 2/13 – Ashbury Ave./Waldo Ave: At approximately 1:14pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle, and arrested the passenger on a warrant out of San Jose PD for Battery. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.
  • 2/13 – Kearney St / Schmidt Ln: At 2201 hours, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle.  The passenger had an outstanding felony warrant from his arrest and was found in possession of 26.6 grams of methamphetamine.  The subject was transported to county jail in Martinez.
