Firefighters Save the Bacon in Oakley After Barn Fire

At 6:40 am Tuesday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a residential structure fire on Holmes Road in the City of Oakley.

While crews were being dispatched, Battalion 2 was in the area headed into Central County. He reported smoke in the area and upon further investigation, stated a barn/outbuilding was on fire.

Crews arrived on scene and made quick knockdown of the building fire which held several pigs. No animals were injured.

According to preliminary investigation, it appears a heat lamp caught fire.

Firefighters got a quick jump on the fire with BC2 in the area along with the residents son spotting the smoke and hearing the animals, this prompted the resident to turn off the electricity to the barn area.  They also freed the pigs from one area of the barn to another.
