March 8 Brentwood Police Update

This past Friday, our Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team executed two Search Warrants within our city. These warrants were served in connection to a drive-by shooting that originally happened on December 15, 2022 at around 9:15 p.m., within the 100 block of Dunedin Drive.

You may remember our previous update in early January regarding the recovery of the vehicle used in that shooting and the arrest of the suspected driver. Our Detectives have continued to follow-up on leads, and since then identified the suspected shooter as 21-year-old Armando Cruz Vera of Brentwood.

During our search on Friday we not only safely took Cruz Vera into custody but recovered two firearms, a semi-automatic pistol, magazine and a revolver that had an obliterated serial number. Our Detectives believe they have recovered the same firearm used in the shooting in December and determined the motive of the shooting was gang-related.

Yesterday, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office filed the following charges on Cruz Vera: 246 PC – Shooting into an Inhabited Dwelling, 186.22(b)(1)(b) PC – Criminal Street Gang Enhancement, and two counts of 30605(a) PC – Possession of an Assault Weapon. Cruz Vera remains in custody in lieu of $480,000 bail. Although it often times may take months for us to complete an investigation, our officers continue to work diligently so that Brentwood remains a safe place for everyone to enjoy.
