Home Depot Worker Arrested for Stealing $300k in Merchandise

The California Highway Patrol says on March 1, 2023, the Golden Gate Division (GGD) Organized Retail Crime Task Force (ORCTF) was contacted by The Home Depot (THD) loss prevention investigators in Hayward regarding several thefts committed by a store employee.

The employee was suspected of stealing merchandise while performing work after hours.

The estimated the loss suffered by THD exceeded $300,000.00. Loss prevention investigators provided GGD ORCTF with video surveillance of the employee and the vehicle used in several of the incidents.

On March 21, 2023, the GGD ORCTF, with the assistance of CHP’s Central Division Investigative Services Unit, executed a search warrant at the employee’s residence in the city of Patterson, CA.

During the search of the residence, approximately 600 stolen retail items estimated at a value of $80,000.00 were recovered. Investigators also seized nearly $90,000 in cash as proceeds from illicit criminal activity.

The employee was arrested at THD in Hayward and booked into the Alameda County jail on charges of California Penal Code (CPC) 490.4- Organized Retail Crime, CPC 487(a)- Grand Theft, CPC 496(a)- Possession of Stolen Property, and CPC 182(a)(1)- Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.
