It does not appear that Contra Costa was anywhere near prepared to deal with all the illegal fireworks. Here in our area of Wild Horse Rd, there were considerably more fireworks than last year. The Contra Costa advertising and talk about illegal fireworks was NOT effective, nor was the county staffed-up to handle onslaughts of calls. The number provided did little more than a Google search for your city's phone number - no priority for any calls - many city's phones either not answered or a busy signal (yes, that bad!). If the county is serious about fighting illegal fireworks, planning for each July 4 and January 1 should be continual and should garner specific allocations of staff in all city's/town's to administer effectively.

It's funny how there is a portion of society that feels entitled and thinks that rules don't apply to them.

You must not be paying attention. Rule of law hasn't mattered in this county for at least a couple of years now.

Why do we call it 4th of July day? Let’s call it Inconsiderate, Selfish, Stupid people day.

All went well at Mt Diablo High School fireworks show on Grant St in Concord. Noticed decrease in illegal fireworks activity around Arold Industrial Place and Peralta next to Hwy 4 last night.

Mike, Why did you promote these fireworks on your insta? How about you stop being a hypocrite
CC News July 5, 2023 - 2:23 pm
I didn't promote them, saying Oakley people know how to party is sarcasm.

What no calls in Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, Orinda, Moraga, Alamo, Blackhawk Danville, San Ramon????? Wonder why???? Mmmmmmmmm Every year it’s the same zero tolerance lip service with no change in behavior. If fines started at let’s say 10k or more and came with jail time, plus a felony conviction for illegal fireworks then some might think twice…
