On Monday, July 31, 2023, the California Highway Patrol, Golden Gate Division (GGD), Cargo Theft Interdiction Program (CTIP) responded to a warehouse facility in the city of Stockton, and located 48 pallets of stolen Sherwin-Williams paint.

The GGD CTIP had been working with private industry, pertaining to the theft of the paint. The initial theft had occurred in the state of Nevada, and the stolen cargo was traced back to Stockton. The GGD CTIP recovered the stolen Sherwin-Williams paint, valued at approximately $229,000.

The successful recovery of this stolen cargo was due in large part to the excellent communication between CHP, allied agencies, and the private industry. This investigation remains ongoing.

The CHP has taken an active role in fighting cargo theft since 1993, with the creation of the Cargo Theft Interdiction Program (CTIP).
