The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito police calls between April 21-27 according to the El Cerrito Police Department.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

April 21st

Shoplift / Possess Burglary Tools / Possess Controlled Substance / Drug Paraphernalia – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls):
At 10:30 AM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect who stole merchandise. During the search incident to arrest, officers located controlled substances, drug paraphernalia and burglary tools. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.

Robbery – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls):
At 3:05 PM, a suspect stole merchandise and threatened to pepper spray security when confronted.

Vandalism – 10500 San Pablo Ave.
At 3:00 AM, a suspect used a butane torch and damaged one of the windows to the business.

April 22ND

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Potrero Ave.
At 7:41 AM, officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and found the driver to have a warrant. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Matinez Detention Facility.

April 23rd

Residential Burglary – 200 block of Ashbury Ave.
Between 6:00 PM on 04/22/2024 to 7:50 AM on 04/23/2024, a suspect pried open the front door of the residence that was under construction. The suspect stole a water heater before fleeing the scene.

April 24th

Possession of Marijuana – 540 Ashbury Ave. (El Cerrito High School):
At 10:53 AM, school administrators had information that a student was selling marijuana at the school.  Officers arrived at the school and arrested the juvenile for possession of marijuana.  The juvenile was cited and released to their parents.

Auto Burglary – Carlson Blvd. / San Pablo Ave.
At 3:20 PM, a suspect shattered the victim’s passenger side window and stole items.

Stolen Vehicle – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24 Hour Fitness):
At 4:26 PM, the victim reported a suspect stole their motor scooter from in front of the business.

Stolen Vehicle / Felon in Possession of Ammunition / Possession of Narcotics – Eastshore Blvd. / Potrero Ave.
At 7:41 PM, officers located a stolen vehicle and arrested the driver.  The driver was also in possession of ammunition and narcotics. Further investigation found the driver to be a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing any ammunition. The driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Matinez Detention Facility.

April 25th

Battery – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway):
At 6:55 AM, the suspect pushed the victim into a display shelf.  The suspect fled prior to police arrival.

April 26th
Vehicle Burglary – 11780 San Pablo Ave.
At 9:52 AM, a victim reported a person burglarized their vehicle overnight.

Vandalism – 1400 block of S. 56th St.
At 9:52 AM, a subject reported a suspect cut an AT&T telephone line in an apparent unsuccessful attempt to steal copper.

Shoplifting – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls):
At 8:44 PM, an officer reports store security detained a suspect for shoplifting. The suspect was transported to the El Cerrito Police station for booking. After booking, the suspect was released on a citation.

Trespass- 11344 San Pablo Ave. (Denny’s):
At 10:56 PM, a victim reported a suspect entered the business several times and refused to leave until officers responded. The suspect was placed under citizen’s arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

April 27th

Vandalism – 900 block of Elm St.
At 7:22 AM, an officer reports the suspect cut a hose on the victim vehicle overnight.

Petty Theft – 600 block of Balra Dr.
At 9:50 AM, an officer reports a rear license plate was lost or stolen sometime within the past week.

Shoplifting / False Plates – 11048 San Pablo Ave. (Harbor Freight):
At 11:19 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop for a license plate violation.  During the traffic stop, the vehicle and occupants were identified as suspects in a shoplift that occurred at Harbor Freight. Two suspects were placed under citizen’s arrest and cited while on scene. The stolen property was recovered and returned to Harbor Freight.

Commercial Burglary – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24 Hour Fitness):
At 1:26 AM, an officer reports a suspect cut the locks on two separate lockers in the locker room and stole items.

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Wall Ave.
At 1:02 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for an outstanding warrant. The driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
