The Antioch Police Department announced that an operation at Target resulted in two shoplifters being arrested.
According to police:
On May 9, Antioch Police Officer Lara and worked with Loss Prevention Officers to arrest a man who has shoplifted several times from the store. The man stole video games and other merchandise worth nearly $1,000. Later that day, Officer Carpenter stopped another individual attempting to leave the store with more than $700 worth of merchandise.
This comes as the Pittsburg Police Department arrested a 17-year-old responsible for a $5,100 theft at a local Bath & Body Works Store. According to police, Pittsburg Police Officer Towner who leads the commercial/retail enforcement unit, spearheaded a thorough investigation spanning several weeks into retail and shoplifting incidents at a local Bath & Body Works store, resulting in a loss exceeding $5100.
Back in October 2023, Target announced the closure of its Pittsburg location due high theft and retail crime.
“In this case, we cannot continue operating these stores because theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests, and contributing to unsustainable business performance. We know that our stores serve an important role in their communities, but we can only be successful if the working and shopping environment is safe for all.
Before making this decision, we invested heavily in strategies to prevent and stop theft and organized retail crime in our stores, such as adding more security team members, using third-party guard services, and implementing theft-deterrent tools across our business. Despite our efforts, unfortunately, we continue to face fundamental challenges to operating these stores safely and successfully.”
Antioch Has 514 Vehicle Thefts Year-to-Date in 2024
Antioch residents have experience 514 vehicle thefts year-to-date within the City of Antioch according to data by the Antioch Police Department. Year-to-date, Antioch leads Contra Costa County in vehicle thefts, surpassing the City of Richmond and City of Concord who are both comparable to population sizes. — Full Story
