With California set to see another gas tax hike on July 1 to 59.6 cents per gallon, a new tax is potentially on the horizon thanks to California Air Resources Board (CARB).
Under the potential plan, California could see a 47 cents per gallon increase as early as 2025.
However, according to the report, “On average, from 2031 through 2046 the proposed amendments are projected to potentially increase the price of gasoline by $1.15 per gallon, potentially increase the price of diesel by $1.50 per gallon and fossil jet fuel by $1.21 per gallon.”

The report (page 62) admits this would be a pass-through cost where it would increase the cost to producers and importers of high-carbon intensity fuels, it would directly affect individuals in California as drivers would assume some portion of the increased costs for producers would likely be passed onto consumers in the former of higher prices for these fuels.
Although the The Low Carbon Fuel Standard 2023 Amendments was released on September 8, 2023, State Senator Janet Nguyen (R-Huntington Beach) sounded the alarm on National Television calling it a “secret” tax increase that would penalize many Californians.
CARB has called the proposal a preliminary report and only possibilities and said it was not a tax.
According to AAA, gas prices in Contra Costa County stand at $5.40 per gallon while the State of California is at $5.30 per gallon. Nationally, prices are at $3.63 per gallon.
A special bulletin was issued in April 2024 by the State highlighting that on July 1, 2024, the California Gas Tax would increase by 2 cents per gallon to 59.6 cents per gallon.

CARB has to know that One Chinese Cargo Ships pollutes the equivalent of 93 million passenger vehicles. There’s only 31 million registered passenger vehicles in California. There are hundreds in and near the ports of California. This won’t do anything about the real source of air pollution. It’s just another scam from California.
