On Tuesday, the Brentwood City Council honored Troy White for his heroic actions at the scene of a car crash on Highway 4.
White, a Brentwood resident, was presented with a Proclamation from Mayor Joel Bryant who provided an overview of White’s actions where he pulled a 3-year-old child from a burning vehicle after a car crash.
The crash occurred on May 22 on Highway 4 just prior to the I-160. As White was passing the accident, he pulled over and ran towards the vehicle. He realized a child was still in the car. Here is what he described back in May:
“I sprinted over there and as I was approaching the car, I saw someone climbing out of it but wanted to make sure no one else was in there,” explained White. “It’s a worse nightmare scene because you see a kid in a car seat. My first thought was make sure she was okay, you don’t want to move them in case they were hurt, the next thought was the car was on fire, she has to come out.”
“As I was attempting to free her, I heard the little girl and she was saying help me, help me, I don’t like this. I told her I was gonna get her out of there. At that point, I said to myself was getting her out of there,” explained White. “I have kids, I wasn’t going to let a kid burn in a car. It took me about 30-seconds to get her out.”
At that point, the girls mom came around the vehicle as flames began to engulf the vehicle.
“I handed her back to her mom and I told them they were going to be okay,” said White. “I left. I felt like my job was done and everyone was out of the vehicle. I was not seeking any accolades. I feel honored by god and it was my duty as a man and a human to help someone in need.”
White stated Tuesday he wanted to glorify God while noting he was in recovery from drug addition and alcohol.
“Recently I have been called a hero. You know, I just think I am a good person. I think its an honor and privilege to be there that day to help young Paisley and its an honor and a privilege to be here with you good people today. I think this room is full of good people and full of heroes,” stated White.
White also called his parents heroes for unconditional love, integrity and the importance of family. He also thanked his daughter for being his “why”.
“I just want to remind us all just be good people and to remember that even though you may not realize it you it, you’re also someone’s hero,” said White.
