The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District is battling a three-alarm vegetation fire on Deer Valley Road in Balfour in the City of Brentwood.
The fire was initially reported as a 30×30 vegetation fire, however, it quickly grew to 1.5 acres.
By 3:35 pm, it grew to 50-acres and a second-alarm wild land fire response was requested. Law enforcement was requested to provided traffic control on Deer Valley Road.
Fire crews said they did say the head of the fire was bumping up a fire break and was beginning to burn itself out, however, they still had a “long way to go” to gain control.
As of 3:48 pm, the fire was more than 100-acres. They also requested structure protection at W Country Club while air drops were set to begin.
As of 4:20 pm, fire crews were making good progress on the fire due to water drops and firebreaks.
As of 4:23 pm, thanks to air support, they believe they have it pretty much knocked out, no more threats to structures. All resources not yet committed to incident now being cancelled. Contained to around 100 acres.
7:30 PM UPDATE- CALFIRE says the fire was listed at 255 acres and 75% contained. Firefighters continue to build and maintain control lines while mitigating any hazards

So…… homes and vehicles were painted pink.
I for one would be thankful. I understand being frustrated or not having time to clean vehicles, solar panels or swimming pools , I do. I would be thankful that my house was saved. I would be thankful especially if I am unable to purchase home insurance.
Thank you CalFire tankers for protecting my house and possibly my loved ones lives.
