On Friday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to an ice cream shop that caught fire in the City of Antioch.
At 6:22 am, CONFIRE received a report of smoke and flames coming from La michoacana Plus, an ice cream shop, at the corner of A St and E 18th. It was reported that prior to firefighter arrival, a window was broken.
The incident prompted Antioch Police to block off a portion of A Street and provide traffic control to allow fire crews to have access to the side of the building and the roof.
Fire crews arrived on scene and confirmed it was a working fire and began to make access into the business. By 6:32 am, the fire was knocked down and limited to the single business.
According to preliminary information, CONFIRE Investigators say arson is suspected as the fire was intentionally set but offered no other details. A large rock was also found inside the business. Antioch Police, meanwhile, confirmed the business has been hit by multiple burglaries and vandalism in the past few months.
Will update if anything new gets released on the incident.
