77 Fire Call Outs as Fireworks Takeover Night Skies in Contra Costa County

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District had nearly 80 fire call outs during July 4 Holiday where fireworks lit up the sky in Contra Costa County.

In the City of Antioch, a vegetation fire prompts evacuations after a field caught fire in the 2700 block of Deer Valley Road. The fire made its way up a hill towards houses on Lotus Ct.  In the City of Martinez, they battled a 3-acre vegetation fire.

Within Contra Costa County, there were at least two known firework related injury calls. One occurred around 8:00 pm in San Pablo for a hand injury from fireworks, while at approximently 10:30 pm, someone in the City of Oakley received a head injury after lighting off fireworks.

CONFIRE did issue an update on the Kimball Island Fire which first was reported as possibly started by an approved firework show in Antioch, they said the fire was not related upon further investigation.

Here are the calls between 8:30 pm July 4 through 3:30 am July 5. It should be noted, some of the incidents were deemed no threat upon firefighter arrival. Some of the incidents included mutual aid from the Crockett Carquinez Fire Department.

5. 9:19 pm – Antioch: W 18^th & L S, outside fire
6. 9:22 pm – Antioch: outside fire a Sanger peak
7. 9:23 pm – Antioch: outside fire/spot fire on Panda Ct
8. 9:27 pm – Discovery Bay: outside fire on Beach Ct
9. 9:27 pm – Pittsburg: tree on fire in 500 block Railroad
10. 9:36 pm – Oakley: house fire on Parkfield Way
11. 9:37 pm – Antioch: outside fire on Meade St
12. 9:38 pm – Bay Point: residential structure fire on Calavares Dr & Solano. Garage on fire.
13. 9:43 pm – Antioch: field on fire on Verne Roberts & W 10^th
14. 9:44 pm – Bay Point: Ranch Hollow: backyard on fire
15. 9:44 pm – Antioch: outside fire at Lone Tree & Davison
