Editorial: It’s Not Hard to Say Happy Fourth of July

by CC News

Rather than saying Happy Fourth of July, Antioch City Councilwoman Tamisha Torres-Walker instead posted “Happy 15 Days after Juneteenth”.

It is not that difficult to say Happy Fourth of July or Happy Independence Day and go about ones day. Instead, somehow she decides it is a good idea to poke at people. And to poke at people on a day that guaranteed her freedom of speech to post things like this. It is silly.

I am sure Torres-Walker has her reasons for doing the things she does, but at some point, she should be finding ways to bring the community together, instead, its as if she has taken it as a badge of honor to see how she could further divide the community this month–next month it will be something else, and something else after that like all the other previous months before.  Its juvenile acts like this that continue to divide Antioch because some members of the city council continue to act like activist instead of leaders.

Ironically, as someone who preaches tolerance and acceptance, she gives little in return.

The ignorance of her post shows she does not think things through as there would be no Juneteenth to celebrate if there was no July 4, 1776. It would be nice if she would explain what she hoped to achieve with the post or how she believes it could bring people together. I would love to hear that explanation, especially after the recent Grand Jury Report.

I might even need a beer midway through that conversation.

Also troublesome, Torres-Walker apparently refuses to look at the American Flag during the Pledge of Allegiance. Sure, its her right not to look, but so far in 2024, she has failed to look at it during the Antioch City Council Meetings. A quick rundown of Torres-Walker during the Pledge of Allegiance in 2024:

  • June 25 – Absent
  • June 11 – Does not look at the flag
  • May 28 – Does not look at the flag
  • May 15 – Absent
  • May 14 – Does not look at the flag
  • April 23 – Does not look at the flag
  • April 9 – Does not look at the flag
  • March 26 – Does not look at the flag
  • March 12 – Absent
  • Feb 27 – Not conclusive if she is looking at or away from the flag
  • Feb 13 – Does not look at the flag
  • Jan. 30 – special media, pledge not picked up on video
  • Jan. 23 – Does not look at the flag
  • Jan. 9 – Does not look at the flag

For folks in Antioch, 2026 can’t come soon enough. You deserve so much better than what you are receiving from the District 1 elected official. She continues to embarrass herself, and the Antioch community.

Not very “Patriotic” of her. Shes pandering to her base as usual, that is the true downfall of Antioch. Always playing the victim card.

She craps on this nation, but she makes her money and pays her bills in dollars, doesn’t she?

I’ve noticed that she doesn’t stand or face the flag too and I’m glad it’s being pointed out. It’s embarrassing to see a lady at her age still hold onto leftist views like this. It’s excusable when your young and not in a position of power, but after gaining life experience…? Her experiment has run its course and it’s time for new leadership. Like Tamisha, if you hate a place and it’s history, you can move somewhere else. That’s the beauty of the United States and why people from around the world flock here.

So now she’s anti-American? Maybe she should find another country to move to that allows convicted arsonists to hold public office. Good luck with that!

Well said, Editor. She has every right to say what she wants and refuse to honor the flag. The voters in her district must decide if they want to be represented by her. So far, the voters seem to want her and the chaos she brings to the city. Elections have consequences.
