Vegetation Fire Prompts Evacuations in Antioch

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District briefly issued evacuation orders after a fire broke out in the City of Antioch on July 4,

According to Contra Costa County Fire, as crews were battling multiple fires, a vegetation fire broke out in the 2700 block of Hillcrest at approximately 10:00 pm. A short-time later, additional resources were requested as the fire made its way up a hill towards Lotus Street which caught multiple fences on fire–evacuations were then ordered.

Additional crews responded to provide structure protection which ultimately limited damage to fences and the fire never spread to homes. By 11:04 pm, the fire had been knocked down.

By 12:45 am, crews were wrapping up the scene. It is unclear how many homes faced evacuations or what the cause of the fire was.

According to preliminary information and data, between 8:30 pm July 4 and 12:30 am July 5, CONFIRE responded to more than 70 outside fire calls and other types of fires as they had additional strike teams available for the July 4 holiday.
