Concord Man in Custody After Walnut Creek Shooting

The Walnut Creek Police Department announced a Concord man is in custody after a recent shooting in the City of Walnut Creek.

On July 11, 2024, at 7:00 a.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of South Main Street upon receiving a 911 call of a shot being fired by one person toward another. The victim was not struck by gunfire and was not injured.

On the evening of July 11th, detectives located Jose Cavazos in Concord and arrested him in connection to this shooting incident. On July 12, 2024, this case was presented to the District Attorney’s Office, and the following charges were filed against Jose Cavazos:

  • PC 245(b) – Assault with a Semiautomatic Firearm
  • PC 12022.5(a) – Firearm Enhancement
  • PC 246.3(a) – Discharge of a Firearm with Gross Negligence
  • PC 29900(a)(1) – Possession of a Firearm with Violent Prior Convictions
Jose Cavazos remains in custody, and his bail has been set at $870,000.

Police believe this was an isolated incident and that no other people in the area were at risk.
