The San Pablo Police Department announced they have recovered 72 firearms and 1 crossbow after two incidents last week.
According to police, the firearms were recovered after dealing with two violent incidents.
The first, a male had allegedly locked his girlfriend and her kids in a room for four days and threatened to shoot them. Police say they escaped, and he was arrested for domestic violence, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and criminal threats. A total of 62 guns were taken away from him, as he used them to threaten his victim, and an emergency protective order was granted.
- UPDATE – Jacob Garcia (53 years old, Richmond). The firearms were seized in San Pablo for safekeeping by officers, following the incident and issuance of the protective order (EPO).
In the second incident, a suspect assaulted his neighbor, shot out his car windows with a crossbow, and threatened to shoot his neighbor with a firearm. After barricading himself inside his house, he was ultimately taken into custody by K-9 Cash from the Richmond Police Department and charged with; assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a firearm, criminal threats, battery, vandalism, and resisting arrest. This man also had an arrest warrant for similar crimes but with a different victim. A total of 10 guns and the crossbow were taken away from him.
- UPDATE – The suspect arrested in this case was Eleazar Reyes Jr. (28 years old, San Pablo). The circumstances surrounding the second incident are still being investigated however, a verbal and physical altercation did occur between the victim and suspect prior to officers’ arrival.
Police said they were assisted by the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Department, the Danville Police Department, the Pittsburg Police Department and the Richmond Police Department.
“We are happy to report that no one was seriously injured during these very dangerous incidents. While we respect and protect people’s constitutional rights, we will not tolerate criminal behavior, especially when you threaten to kill others,” said San Pablo Police in a statement.
