July 15-21: Richmond Police Calls

The following is a sampling of the Richmond Police Calls reported between July 15-21 which focuses on the higher priority responses in the City of Richmond.

With a July 4 homicide, the Richmond Police Department has already surpassed the total number of homicides that occurred in 2023.  Between July 15-21, the overview includes 2033 calls for service, 22 collisions and 40 arrests

Below is an overview of significant service activity provided by RPD patrol officers during their scheduled shifts. Please note that activity shared in these segments are provided only as an overview, and do not reflect the entirety of service calls and reports taken throughout each shift.

  • 7/13 – ROBBERY: Officers responded to the area of Central Ave and Pierce St for a report of a robbery. Officers learned the victim was stopped at the red light when the suspect shattered the victim’s passenger window and snatched her purse from the passenger seat. Officers conducted an area search with negative results. #7006
  • 7/15 – COMMERCIAL BURGLARY:  Officers responded to the 5000 block of Central Ave for a report of a commercial burglary. Officer learned the suspects rammed a vehicle into the front door of the business and attempted to take an ATM machine by pulling it with the vehicle. The suspects were unsuccessful in taking the ATM machine and fled prior to officers’ arrival. Officers conducted an area check with negative results. #7082
  • 7/17 – RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE: Officers responded to a Flock notification for a stolen vehicle in the area. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic enforcement stop. The vehicle came to a stop and two occupants foot bailed. Officers quickly detained the driver of the stolen vehicle and observed the passenger discard a backpack as he fled from officers. A perimeter was established and with the assistance of a neighboring agency and RPD K-9, the second suspect was taken into custody. Officers recovered a firearm inside the discarded backpack. Both suspects were transported to a local hospital for medical clearance prior to being booked. #7173
  • 7/17 – SHOOTING INVESTIGATION: Officers responded to a local hospital for a report of a gunshot wound victim. Officers learned the victim self-transported to the hospital for treatment after suffering at least one gunshot wound. This investigation is ongoing. #7186
  • 7/18 – RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE: Officers responded to a Flock notification for a stolen vehicle in the area. Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and the driver was taken into custody without incident. #7233
  • 7/20 – DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE (DUI): Officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of San Pablo Ave and Clinton Ave for various moving violations. During the course of the investigation, the driver displayed objective signs of intoxication and provided a Preliminary Alcohol Screening sample of more than three times the legal limit. The driver was arrested for DUI without incident. #7287
  • 7/21 – RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE: Officers responded to a Flock notification for a stolen vehicle in the area. Officers located the vehicle occupied and conducted a traffic enforcement stop. The driver of the stolen vehicle was taken into custody without incident. #7299
