Richmond: Stege Elementary to Temporarily Close for Rebuild

by CC News

The West Contra Costa Unified School District announced last week that Stege Elementary School Campus will temporarily close for a rebuild of the campus.

The announcement came from Superintendent Kenneth C Hurst Sr via a letter announcing the closure to start the 2024-25 school year. He said WCCUSD has chosen the DeJean Middle School campus as the temporary location to accommodate two separate school communities with minimal impact on student learning and daily operations.

According to Superintendent Hunt, the District is planning to do a complete modernization of the campus located in the City of Richmond. The funding will be through non-bond state funds (Fund 21) roughly $43 million dollars.

The move comes as a lawsuit was filed by six educators, staff and parents alleging the District failed to address staffing and facility issues in the schools across the District.
