The Walnut Creek Police Department is investigating an overnight fatal crash that occurred on Ygnacio Valley Road.
According to police, at approximately 1:07 a.m., Walnut Creek Police received a 911 call of a vehicle into a power pole on Ygnacio Valley Road between Civic Drive and North Broadway. Officers arrived on scene and determined the driver had been ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. The passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The name of the deceased is not able to be released at this time while investigators are still attempting to notify the family.
PG&E responded and was able to restore power quickly, but the roadway is expected to remain closed for most of the day.
