OAKLEY POLICE OFFICERS MAKE FELONY ARRESTS ON A BUSY SUNDAY

On Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 1:34AM, Oakley Police Officers were made aware that an armed robbery had just occurred at Sand Creek Rd and Brentwood Boulevard, in Brentwood. The suspect vehicle was described as a black older model Nissan Sedan. Officers began to conduct area checks looking for any similar vehicles and they saw a black 2020 Nissan Maxima driving north on O’Hara Avenue before turning west onto Laurel Road.

Oakley officers followed the vehicle and attempted to stop it at Laurel Road and Empire Avenue. Instead of complying with the officers, the driver of the vehicle decided to flee at a high rate of speed towards the Highway 4 Bypass.

Our officers initiated a pursuit of the vehicle and it fled west on Highway 4.

Our officers followed the vehicle as the driver fled north on 160 at the Highway 4 Bypass/160 split. The driver of the black vehicle then, almost immediately, swerved off 160 over an embankment that again led west onto Highway 4. One of our officers was able to quickly relocate the black vehicle and found it had become disabled.

Our officers detained the occupants and located a loaded Glock handgun next to the passenger side of the vehicle and a Gold chain necklace belonging to their victim inside the vehicle. Brentwood PD arrived on scene and took over their investigation. (Editors Note – Brentwood Police identified the suspect as  28-year-old Orey Douglas of the City of Antioch, was positively identified and placed under arrest.)

Later Sunday, at 12:13PM, a male victim called us to report an unknown white male adult in his thirties was driving adjacent to him in a blue Chevrolet Camaro with a white paper dealer license plate. The male in the Camaro pointed a firearm at the victim and rammed him in reverse while on Main Street near Bernard Road.

At the time of this investigation, neither the blue Camaro, nor the suspect could be found, but the information was conveyed to other officers. At 7:24PM, an Oakley officer saw the same blue Camaro driving on W. Cypress Road. Our officer tried to catch up to the vehicle, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed down Duarte Avenue.

The vehicle came to a stop and the sole male occupant tried to walk away from the vehicle without being detected. The male was contacted by one of our officers and taken into custody. The blue Camaro was determined to be the same vehicle involved in the earlier incident and the occupant who had been detained was confirmed to be the driver of the vehicle during the time of the previous incident.  Our officers took Ryan McDonald (33, city of Pittsburg) into custody for the previous incident and booked him into MDF.

Even later Sunday, at 11:41PM, Contra Costa County Deputy Sheriffs were investigating where an occupant of a black Acura sedan was said to have pointed a firearm at others. The investigation revealed the Acura was registered to an address on Zinfandel Drive in Oakley. Oakley officers saw the vehicle driving in that area and stopped it.

Our officers detained the occupants and discovered two males and one female were in the vehicle, our officers detained all the occupants and held them for the Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Sheriffs arrived and took custody of the two males. Two firearms were found in the vehicle during this investigation. The two males were arrested and booked on several charges.

Chief Paul Beard“This was a particularly busy Sunday for us, but very indicative of the types of investigations and incidents the officers of the Oakley Police Department have found themselves involved in on a more frequent basis lately. Our officers diligently track down criminals in an effort to keep our community safe. We particularly take offense to criminals fleeing to our city after committing heinous crimes elsewhere. Our officers are driven to make sure the City of Oakley does not become a haven for criminals to feel comfortable in and they are driven to arrest them if they try to do so. We are doing everything we can do to push back on criminal acts that threaten the safety and security of our community. With that being said, our officers weigh the risks of each incident before determining how to best engage in them and we develop plans to bring things to a successful conclusion as safely as possible.

I am not surprised by the cohesiveness displayed by all the different agencies involved in these incidents and I appreciate all of the work Oakley Police Sergeant Collier and Oakley Police Officers Arcaina, Hernandez, Sorrell and Williams put into these arrests and investigations. Due to the fact two of these incidents are under investigation by other agencies I will not be naming the suspects in those particular investigations. Stay safe Oakley”
