Arrest of Clayton Mackay Following Residential Burglary and Multiple Charges

On September 1 at 4:33 am, the @Danville Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious circumstance at a residence on Alexander Lane in Danville, where an unknown male, later identified as Clayton Mackay (26, Walnut Creek), allegedly entered a home to steal property. The reporting party indicated that Mackay was armed with a knife and was confronting her husband at the time of the call.

Upon arrival, officers learned that Mackay had fled the scene. During the pursuit, officers observed Mackay running from a neighboring yard. A coordinated effort involving a K-9 unit and assistance from other local law enforcement agencies led to Mackay being last seen in the vicinity of the Livery Shopping Center parking lot on San Ramon Valley Blvd at 4:40 am. Despite initial efforts, the Police Department was unable to locate Mackey and continued the search.

The Police Department issued a Nixle Alert to the community, which generated multiple calls from the public. Residents reported several sightings of Mackay near the Las Trampas Trail, prompting deployments of Danville officers and perimeters to apprehend him. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s STARR helicopter spent hours searching and spotted Mackay, guiding officers to his location. With the assistance of Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Mackay was taken into custody on the 100 block of Camino Encanto at 1:49 pm.

Mackay has been charged with burglary, arson, attempted auto theft, threatening an officer, and other charges. He was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility with bail set at $350,000.

Chief Allan Shields expressed his heartfelt thanks to the community for their prompt reporting and the numerous calls that played a crucial role in apprehending the suspect. Chief Shields also acknowledged the swift and effective response from their law enforcement partners.
