A look at upcoming 5k Races this fall in Contra Costa County with races that are raising funds for a variety of causes.

Here is the rundown.

Sept. 8 – Delta Harvest Run (Brentwood): This benefit is organized by the Delta Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation. Proceeds from the Delta Harvest Run support East Contra Costa County food banks/pantries, shelters and the funding of college scholarships for our local high schools. Courses are flat and fast and will appeal to athletes of all levels. Choice of 1-Mile Family Fun Run, 5K, 10K and Half Marathon. — More info


Sept. 14 – Donor Network West Foundation Run/Walk (San Ramon) – 14th annual Donor Network West Foundation Run/Walk, a dynamic fundraiser that honors the extraordinary gift of life from donor heroes, families and raises awareness about the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation. This event is more than a run; it’s a celebration of resilience, community, and the profound impact each participant can make towards providing hope now to those in need of a life-saving transplant. – direct link


Sept. 28: MRC-MEF Run for Education (Martinez): The Run for Education is the signature fundraiser for the Martinez Education Foundation. The race began in 2002 as a 5K race with 200 participants and has grown into an event that has hosted more than 500 runners and walkers–last year, raising over $100k.  All the proceeds from entry fees and sponsorships impact our students directly by being awarded to the Martinez Unified School District schools in the form of grants from MEF — direct link


Sept. 28: Dillon’s Dream Annual Stroll For Gold Fun Run and Walk

Help support families and children affected by childhood cancer by participating in our 5k run/walk on September 28, 2024. Enjoy snacks, water, informational booths, and medals for the top 3 runners. The event is from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Contra Loma Regional Park (1200 Frederickson Ln, Antioch CA). Registration is $40 per person.

Oct. 6. Bay Front Run 5k (Hercules/Rodeo): Join the Hercules Education Foundation for a run along the beautiful Bay Trail in Hercules. The race begins at Sanderling & Bayfront, it runs along Bayfront Blvd to the Bay Trail entrance at John Muir Pkwy. the run continues along the Bay Trail thru Hercules to Rodeo. The turn about is at the end of the Bay Trail in Rodeo for 5K. Those doing a 10K will do a double loop. – direct link


Oct. 12: Out of the Darkness Walk (Oakley): The Oakley Chapter Out of the Darkness AFSP Walk is an annual community event organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Held in Oakley, this event aims to raise awareness about suicide prevention and support those affected by suicide loss. Participants gather to walk together, share stories, honor loved ones lost to suicide, and fundraise for mental health resources and research. It serves as a beacon of hope and solidarity, fostering a supportive environment where individuals can connect, heal, and advocate for mental wellness. — more info


Oct 13: San Ramon Run for Education: Join the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation’s 41st Run for Education on Sunday, October 13, 2024. Walk, run, roll, or stroll with friends, family, neighbors, teammates, and colleagues in support of our schools. Come for The Run and stay for the fun: kids’ zone, inflatable games, face painter, balloon artist, photo booth, exhibitor booths, and more! – direct link


Oct. 20 – Lafayette Res Run for Education: The Lafayette Chamber and the City of Lafayette are co-presenters of the Lafayette Res Run for Education which is traditionally held on a Sunday in October. Oakwood Athletic Club is a decades long sponsor of this event. Beneficiaries of the event are the local schools and the services and programs of the Chamber.  — more info


Nov. 28 – Brentwood Turkey Trot: The 11th annual Brentwood Turkey Trot for Schools aims to benefit both the Brentwood Union School District and Liberty Union High School District athletic programs. This community event to promote health, athletics, and education. — more info


Nov 28 – Concord Turkey Trot:  Diablo Valley Federal Credit Union (DVFCU) is pleased to welcome you to our information page about the Concord Turkey Trot, a 5K run/walk benefiting Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa. The event will take place at Newhall Park on Thanksgiving.  For the safety and enjoyment of all participants, registration for this event is capped at 1,500 participants. — more info


Nov. 28 – Bishop Ranch Turkey Trot : The inaugural run will help support the Contra Costa Food Bank. The event will gather at Bishop Ranch City Center in San Ramon for a run around the lakes and gardens. These are chip-timed races on a flat course that has both pavement and packed dirt. Come and run or cheer. — more info


Nov. 28: Nitro Turkey Thanksgiving Day 10k, 5k and Little Turkeys Race (San Pablo): Nitro Turkey will be supporting the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano and encourages every little turkey to bring at least one canned good on race morning. Cash donations can be made when registering and bins will be available on race day for food donations. These are the food items most in need. There will be a 5K and 10K, as well as the Little Turkeys Race: a run for the kids (roughly 100 yards) against the Nitro Turkey. Children (10 and under) attending with 5K/10K runners will receive free entry into Little Turkeys and receive special medals and a goodie bag. — direct link


Dec. 7: Bah Humbug 5k Run/Walk (San Ramon): The 2024 Bah Humbug! presented by the City of San Ramon and Chevron is a great way to start the holiday season off with a healthy fun run or walk through San Ramon. Participants will receive a holiday long-sleeved shirt and the famous Bah Humbug! Ornament. This event is great for families and children! The Bah Humbug! is a chip-timed race. — direct link
