On Monday, September 2, 2024 at 10:16 p.m., San Pablo Police responded to an injury vehicle collision in the 14200 block of San Pablo Avenue.
A gray 2004 BMW sedan was traveling south bound San Pablo Avenue at a high rate of speed and collided with another vehicle in the roadway causing the BMW to jump the west curb line and onto the sidewalk and striking three pedestrians. Officers were on scene within seconds and found the three pedestrians with major injuries lying on the roadway. Two of the pedestrians were adults and the third was a six-year old child. Emergency medical services were summoned as officers initiated life-saving efforts.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle attempted run away from the scene and both were quickly detained. The victims were transported to local hospitals via ambulance.
The preliminary investigation suggested alcohol and/or drugs to have been a contributing factor for the collision. The suspects were medically treated for minor injuries before being cleared for incarceration.
The driver, later identified as 24-year old San Pablo resident, Isael Martinez, was subsequently arrested and booked for felony and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence causing bodily injuries, reckless driving, driving without a license, and resist/delaying an investigation. The passenger, later identified as 30-year old San Pablo resident Bismar Zeledon, was also arrested for misdemeanor charges of public intoxication and resist/delaying an investigation.
Both suspects were subsequently booked at County Jail. San Pablo PD Investigations staff responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The roadway remained closed for several hours while evidence was being processed. The roadway was subsequently reopened around 6:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. The victims in this case sustained serious injuries but are in stable condition.
