San Jose Man Charged with Grand Theft of Copper in Moraga

Martinez, California – The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office has charged a San Jose man with grand theft for stealing copper wiring from a Moraga hardware store.

Mitchell Bedolla Garcia, 45, is facing a felony grand theft charge for stealing over $950 worth of copper wiring from Outdoor Supply Hardware. The copper theft occurred on September 3rd, 2024, on the 1500 block of Canyon Road. Garcia stole $1,295 worth of copper wiring by loading the wire rolls into an empty Shop-Vac box, sealing it with tape to make it look unopened, and paying approximately $110 for the price of the Shop-Vac before leaving the store.

Garcia returned to the store on September 5th with some items he said he wanted to return. The OSH store manager recognized him from security footage and called the Moraga Police. Garcia was arrested and found to have outstanding warrants in other counties.

He is currently being held without bail at the Martinez Detention Facility, awaiting arraignment on the charges.
