On Wednesday, the Antioch Unified School District Board of Trustees amended the contract with interim Superintendent Dr. Robert Martinez.
The board clarified this was for “back pay” for her services in the capacity as superintendent since being appointed in May. It was approved in a 4-0 vote with Trustee Gary Hack absent.
Under the amendment:
- Effective August 31, 2024, Mr. Martinez will receive a one time only stipend in the amount of $6,000. The stipend is in recognition of the extra duties Mr. Martinez performed as Acting Superintendent from May 2024 – August 2024.
- Effective September 11, 2024, Mr. Martinez will be appointed Acting Superintendent with all the rights and duties afforded the office of Superintendent.
- Mr. Martinez shall continue as Acting Superintendent until, otherwise terminated by the Board, an Interim Superintendent or Superintendent is appointed, or Mr. Martinez requests to be removed from that role, whichever occurs first. Mr. Martinez hereby knowingly and voluntarily waives any other notice that may be required by law to terminate or non-renew this Agreement, including but not limited to the provisions of Education Code section 35031.
- While performing the duties of Acting Superintendent, Mr. Martinez will receive an additional payment of $1500 per month for his performance of both positions.
Under future agenda item requests, Trustee Mary Rocha requested they look into a search firm for the superintendent and would like a report back on who is available.
Closed Session Report:
- Item A: No formal action taken, direction given to continue forward.
- Item B: Provided direction to Martinez to continue in his role
- Item C: The Board will work with Matthew Darlington to work with Board President to look at possibility to develop a list of possible interim superintendents in the future.
