The Richmond Police Department say a suspect has been arrested after shooting at a car carrying children.
According to Richmond Police, on Saturday at 6:50 pm, officers responded to the 3500 block of Nevin Ave for a report of a shooting. Officers determined that during a child custody exchange, an argument erupted. The male suspect produced a handgun and fired at the victim as she attempted to flee in her vehicle. At the time, the victim was in her car with three children, including two under the age of two years. The gunfire struck the victim’s vehicle, but luckily, none of the occupants were injured.
Officers immediately responded and located the suspect in the 3600 block of Barrett Ave. The suspect fled on foot, discarding a firearm, which officers recovered. Officers established a perimeter around the area where the suspect fled, assisted by a drone and outside agencies. Officers searched the area and, with the assistance of K9 Cash, located the suspect hiding in a house’s crawl space.
Officers determined the suspect’s firearm had been reported stolen. He is facing charges of attempted murder, child abuse, violations of a restraining order, domestic violence, and possession of a stolen and loaded firearm, along with several other misdemeanors.
Police did not identify the suspect, however, said they were grateful that no one was harmed in this incident and that we were able to get this violent criminal off our streets.
