The Oakley Police Department announced an arson arrest of a 48-year-old male out of the city of Oakley.

On September 25, 2024 at 6:58PM, Oakley police officers were dispatched to a report of a fire just being lit behind the Best Western Hotel adjacent to California State Route 160. A male was seen starting the fire and then leaving towards McDonalds pushing a stroller (there was no baby in the stroller).

Officer Horn worked on evacuating the hotel and getting people out to an area of safety while the fire was being fought and while the smoke was being cleared out of the hotel.

Traffic was impacted in the area for less than an hour, Oakley officers provided traffic control until the situation was under control.

The suspect in this case is Maxwell Gillette, a 48 year old male out of Oakley. Gillette was booked into jail for felony charges related to arson.
