Vehicle Enters Canal After Crash in Pittsburg

Just before 2:00 am Saturday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vehicle crash with water rescue after a vehicle entered a canal.

The crash occurred at 1:52 am at Buchanan Road and Meadows Ave in the City of Pittsburg.

According to preliminary information, a man driving his car going eastbound on Buchanan swerved to avoid what he thought was a car coming towards him going westbound going the wrong way. When he swerved, he hit the center divider on the left then bounced over to the right curb where is car went over the right curb knocking off his wheel and totally destroying the front end of his car.

The other vehicle went through the fence and into the canal.

Contra Costa County Fire dispatched a full swift water rescue response to determine if anyone was in the vehicle. It was later determined to be an empty vehicle with the driver allegedly fleeing the scene.

It is unclear if the Pittsburg Police Department have made an arrest in the incident related to a suspected DUI.
