Antioch, CA — Andrew Pearce of Oakley won the 25 lap IMCA Modified Main Event Friday night at Antioch Speedway. His second win of the season came at the Second Annual JD Willis Salute. This was the opening night at the Bill Bowers Memorial Weekend, and the win for Pearce paid $750.
Cody Burke of Salinas led the opening lap before Pearce went by. Troy Foulger of Oakley settled into third on the second lap. Foulger was challenging Burke for second before making an inside pass on Lap 11. Jonathan Hagio of Prunedale brought out the only yellow flag on Lap 13.
As Pearce led the restart lap, Foulger tried a slide move through Turn 3 and 4, only to drift high and get passed by Kellen Chadwick of Oakley. Foulger had problems and headed for the infield on Lap 16, handing third to Bobby Hogge IV of Salinas.
Pearce set of rapid pace over the remaining distance and brought it home a happy winner ahead of Chadwick, Hogge, Burke and Andrew Peckham of Grass Valley.
Jason Ryan Jr of Oakley won the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. Ryan was this year’s championship runner-up, and this was his third win of the season. It was also his second-consecutive win in the JD Willis Salute.
Matthew Hagio of Prunedale led two laps before Trevor Clymens of Brentwood spun in Turn 4, collecting Al Johnson of Antioch for a yellow flag. Ryan made a low pass in Turn 2 on the restart lap to take the lead with Fred Ryland of Brentwood following into second.
Buddy Kniss of Oakley was soon in the third position, and he slipped past Ryland for second on Lap 13. By then, Ryan held a commanding lead. Ryan would catch slower traffic and make the right moves as he scored the impressive win ahead of Kniss, Ryland, Hagio and Danny Wagner of Bay Point.
Jason Robles of Rio Vista won the 20 lap IMCA Stock Car Main Event. The third win of the season for the championship runner up was the biggest of his career, and he collected $400 for his effort.
Robles had a front row start after the redraw and charged into the lead at the green flag. Fred Ryland of Brentwood slipped past Clarence Holbrook III of Galt on Lap 3 for the second spot and held it until spinning exiting Turn 4 on Lap 7. Jacob Dias of Portola and Terry DeCarlo Jr of Martinez were collected in the incident.
Robles maintained the lead over Holbrook and Chester Kniss of Antioch on the restart. They ran that way until DeCarlo spun in Turn 4 for a Lap 16 yellow flag. Troy Foulger of Oakley was second on the restart. During the final three circuits, Foulger was making strong moves to the inside, but Robles had the preferred outside line. Robles prevailed at the checkered flag ahead of Foulger, Kniss, Royce Goetz of Fernley, Nevada and Holbrook.
Saturday night action will see an increased purse for both the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sport Modifieds. The Bill Bowers Memorial event will also feature IMCA Stock Cars and Pacific Coast Hobby Stocks. for further information, go to www.raceantiochspeedway.com
