Clayton, CA — The City of Clayton is pleased to announce the appointment of Kris Lofthus as its new City Manager. Lofthus, who brings with him over 20 years of public sector experience, officially assumed his role on September 16, 2024.
The City Council and staff are excited to work alongside Lofthus as he leads Clayton into a new chapter of growth, community engagement, and innovation.
Mayor Jim Diaz expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, saying, “Kris Lofthus stood out during the selection process because of his demonstrated leadership, strong vision for community development, and proven ability to engage with citizens in meaningful ways. We believe his experience and passion make him the perfect fit to guide Clayton as we continue to thrive as a vibrant, close-knit community.”
Lofthus comes to Clayton from serving as the Deputy City Manager in Suisun, CA, where he played a pivotal role in improving community services, advancing infrastructure projects, and building strong partnerships between local government and residents. His background in finance, capital projects, community engagement, staff development, negotiations, facility management, and public works makes him well-equipped to navigate Clayton’s unique challenges while fostering a sense of unity and progress.
Upon accepting the position, Lofthus said, “I’m honored to join the City of Clayton and excited to collaborate with the City Council, staff, and residents to continue making Clayton an exceptional place to live, work, and visit. I look forward to building on the city’s strengths and working towards a future of sustainable growth and enhanced community services.”
