14-Year-Old Dead in Richmond Crash, Vehicle Stolen

Fatal Crash

The Richmond Police Department announced that a 14-year-old female has died in a vehicle crash and a 11-year-old remains in critical condition.

On Monday, October 14, 2024, at 05:17 AM, Richmond Police dispatch received an automated traffic collision alert from two separate Apple iPhones. The automated call indicated the phone owner had been in a severe collision somewhere in the 600 block of Canal Blvd.

Officers responded to the area and located a heavily damaged Infinity G35 resting in the northbound lanes of Canal Blvd.

Officers located one occupant, a 14-year-old female, ejected from the vehicle and with fatal injuries. Officers located another occupant, an 11-year-old female, suffering from significant injuries. The 11-year-old victim was transported to a local trauma center, where she remains in critical condition. Officers later determined the 11 and 14-year-old females were siblings. They also determined the Infinity had been reported stolen to the San Pablo Police Department on October 12, 2024.

Initial evidence shows the Infinity was traveling northbound on Canal Blvd at a high rate of speed when it exited the roadway and struck two trees and a pole on the east curb line. Investigators determined that immediately after the collision, two 15-year-old male occupants of the vehicle fled the area. One was located at an area hospital after he sought treatment for injuries. The other was located at a residence in Richmond later that evening.

At this time, the occupants have provided conflicting statements about who was driving at the time of the collision. Investigators will follow up on additional leads, including DNA evidence, to determine which occupant was driving during the crash.

Richmond Police say they are saddened by this senseless tragedy that has resulted in the loss of such a young life. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and the remaining victim who remains hospitalized.

No other information was released.
