The Martinez Police Department announced the arrest of a woman in connection with a carjacking that occurred Friday morning.
On October 25th, 2024, at approximately 6:44 am, Martinez police officers responded to 601 Marina Vista (Amtrak Station) for a report of a female adult, later identified as Christina Starnes, causing a disturbance on the platform.
Officers arrived and the subject was not cooperative with officers, refused assistance, and was issued a refund by Amtrak.
Around 7:21 am, Martinez police officers responded back to the Amtrak Station for a report of a carjacking which had just occurred. While the victim was arranging luggage in the back seat of her parked car, the person from the earlier call, Christina Starnes, forcefully took possession of the victim’s vehicle, running over the victim’s foot as she sped away.
A second elderly female passenger was forced out of the moving vehicle and dragged prior to freeing herself. Both driver and passenger required medical transport and treatment for injuries sustained during the crime.
Around 9:14 am, Martinez Police and Amtrak Police investigators tracked Starnes, who was still in the stolen vehicle, to Walnut Creek where she was taken into custody.
A Martinez police officer sustained minor injuries during the apprehension and later received medical treatment.
Starnes was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility for the below charges and is being held on a $315,000.00 bail. She is not cooperating with investigators.
