The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a 2-alarm fire in Pleasant Hill which ultimately displaced 24 people.
According to CONFIRE, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, just before 3:00 p.m., Contra Costa Fire was dispatched for reports of a fire in the attic space of a multi-family residential building in Pleasant Hill. Dispatchers upgraded the call to a working fire after multiple callers reported seeing smoke and flames from the roof.
Engine 9 confirmed visible smoke while en route. Engine 5 was first on scene with smoke coming from the eves of the building. Battalion Chief 2 quickly upgraded the call to a second alarm as the fire was spreading in the attic space as firefighters completed a primary search and worked an offensive fire attack.
The fire was knocked down in approximately 24 minutes.
No injuries were reported. The cause was determined to be from a plumber doing hot work in one of the bathrooms. Red Cross was called to provide assistance to a total of 16 adults and 8 children who were displaced.
No other information was released by CONFIRE.
