The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Contra Costa Fire) announced the launch of a Peer Support Canine Program.
According to the District, now, more than ever, our firefighters, command staff, support staff, and their families need competent, trusted, and understanding support and assistance.
The District has developed a Peer Support Canine Program offering comfort care and preemptive and proactive care. Firefighters often experience unique stressors beyond what most understand and these events can be impactful for years.
Having properly trained and embedded canines and canine handlers within the District can make all the difference in the health and longevity of personnel.
Contra Costa County Fire will introduce two peer support canines as well as recognize our Fire Investigation Dog and Search and Rescue Task Force Dog with a swearing-in event on Monday at Fire Station 2 in Pleasant Hill.
